How To Figure Out The First Day Of Your Period

I've had a number of people ask me how I figured out the first day of my menstrual cycle when I was trying to conceive, so I thought I'd do a post on the topic. When I was going through fertility treatments, this is how my doctor's office recommended counting and this is how I've done it ever since:

1. The first day of your menstrual cycle (day one)is the first day of full menstrual flow. Do not start counting if you are just having spotting.

2. Many women don't start their full flow until afternoon or evening. The general rule of thumb I was told to use was any bleeding (full flow) starting before 4:00pm would be counted as starting that day. Any bleeding after 4:00pm would be counted as the next day.

3. Mid cycle spotting should not be counted as the start of a period. You should talk to your doctor about this since mid-cycle bleeding or spotting could be a sign of another problem.

Of course, if your doctor recommends counting your cycle days differently, by all means follow his/her advice. This is simply how I've done it for many years and how I was told to do it. This method seemed to be pretty accurate since I did conceive many times while counting cycle days this

Hope this helps if you decide to use it!
