46 YEAR OLD NATURAL PREGNANCY AFTER SPENDING LIFE SAVINGS ON IVF

I can certainly relate to the woman in this story, she struggled with infertility for years and she and her husband spent their life savings on IVF.  After they finally let go, she gets pregnant naturally out of nowhere.  This woman has now become a fertility counselor because she is convinced that there is a mental stress component to infertility.  She and her husband spent every waking moment trying to conceive and this most certainly affected their stress level.

From the article:
We put so much pressure on ourselves to have a baby that everything became very regimented, we

focused all our energy on conceiving......And three years later I became pregnant, now I'm living proof that really letting go of all the anxiety around conceiving naturally can be solved by changing your mental attitude...
...After going through the heartbreak of not being able to conceive for seven years, Liz, who was already a trained therapist, decided to specialise in fertility problems to help other couples who have been through similar struggles.

FENG SHUI FOR PREGNANCY AND BABY

What are the principles of feng shui for babies?  This guest post explains some do's and don'ts to create the right environment according to the principles of feng shui design.

Creating Good Feng Shui in Baby's Room

Guest Post By Kathryn Weber

Getting ready for a new baby requires a lot of thought and planning from what diapers the baby will

wear down to the decoration and arrangement of baby's room. Today's parents want to create a haven for their little one that will help the baby feel comforted and nurtured, as well as stimulated enough so that they thrive. Increasingly, parents are going beyond the traditional coordinated "theme" rooms to ensure baby has a healthy environment by incorporating feng shui.
Feng shui, the Chinese system for arrangement and placement, so often used in businesses and homes is now making its way into the nursery, and for good reason, too. Feng Shui proposes that by arranging and aligning the room correctly, energy will flow better in the room and that all who reside in the room will thrive and prosper better than if the energy is the room was incorrect or did not flow smoothly. Understandably, no one needs to thrive and prosper more than a baby.
To maximize the energy in baby's room, there are several important factors to consider, such as room location, safety, colors, and furniture arrangement. Using feng shui in the nursery will help to make babies less fussy, who will feel more comfortable in their surroundings, and who will be healthy and flourish. What does it take to accomplish this? Following some basic considerations will help both baby and parents create a room that makes them both happy.
Select a good location for the baby's bedroom. A new baby should have a bedroom that is not over a garage or has an empty space below. The bedroom also shouldn't be located where there is excessive noise that might keep the baby from sleeping, such as close to a living room where the TV is on, or close to a noisy street or neighbor.
Bed placement is important. The bed should not be against a window or be directly in line with the door. Put the baby on a solid wall with the head of the crib against the wall, rather than lengthwise. Make sure the baby does not sleep or is placed against a slanted wall. These press on the baby. Avoid placing the baby against a wall that is shared with a bathroom, toilet, storage, or utility-type room.
Opt for soothing colors. Children benefit from bright colors in play areas, but if these are used in a baby's room, infants can be over stimulated to the point that they do not rest well. Because deep sleep in babies is necessary for healthy growth, be sure to select restful, muted colors. Whites are excellent for children, but avoid black and white color scheme because there is too much contrast. Select color palettes that are close to one another and harmonious, such as green and blue, white and beige, or pink and yellow.
Create soft movement in the room. A room that is too still becomes stagnant and this is not beneficial for the growth of the child. To create good, but soft energy and movement, hang mobiles close to a window to move gently in the breeze and keep soft music playing in the room. You can also place a small fan on a dresser turned on low to keep air moving in the room. Avoid placing the baby under a ceiling fan as these disrupt their body energy.
Watch for pointed objects. Make sure there are no hard corners from dressers or changing tables pointed at the baby's head or body. Move these to another part of the room where they are not pointed in the direction of the bed.
Select design motifs with care. Make sure that designs do not have harsh points, such as arrows, crosses, diamonds, or triangles. Nature designs are excellent and promote growth. Animal designs should also be chosen carefully. Ferocious or aggressive animals, even when they are made for a baby's room, should not be chosen. Some of these are found in jungle motif designs and include lions, tigers, bears, and reptiles. Motifs with fish are fine as long as the watery theme is not overly dominant. Otherwise, respiratory, lung, nasal, or kidney problems could develop.
Keep lighting balanced. During the day, the light in the baby's room should neither be too bright or too dark. Install blinds that can be lowered or raised as needed to keep the room at a pleasant level of lighting. If the room is too bright, the baby won't rest deeply. If too dim, the room would be too "yin" and the baby could fail to thrive or have respiratory problems.

POSITIVE THINKING SHOWN TO HELP YOU GET PREGNANT

Believe me, I'm not a "Pollyanna" who always sees the glass half full, but I have learned how to visualize what I want and know that somehow, someway, I'm going to get it. I guess I'd put that in the category of positive thinking. Here is an article about positive thinking and how it may help you conceive (and how negative emotions may be keeping you from your goal):

From the article

A study published in the Italian fertility journal, Minerva Ginecologica, suggests that emotional

stress can cause severe upheaval in a woman’s reproductive cycle. Women with fertility problems were found to have very high levels of the stress hormone cortisol in their bloodstream. This is the same hormone that has been found to shut down ovulation in female athletes. The study also discovered that more than 5% of all women experienced disruptions in the menstrual cycles merely because of emotional stress. This can make conception difficult or even impossible for some couples.

A study performed at the University of California at San Diego analyzed women undergoing differing levels of depression. This study found that women who showed the most markers of depression were up to 93% less likely to become pregnant than their less-depressed peers. A study performed in 1992 showed similar results for men who were experiencing depression. Couples in which the male partner was depressed were much less likely to conceive than those couples who were not going through depression.
A study at Brown University in Rhode Island also concluded that depression and infertility appear to be linked. In this study regarding women’s mental health, Brown University researchers discovered that women with a past history of depression were up to twice as likely to undergo examinations for fertility concerns."

...Does Positive Thinking Work?
According to recent studies, there is some merit in maintaining positive thought patterns when it comes to improving fertility. A study was performed in 2000 examining the effects of positive thinking on fertility rates in women struggling with infertility.

The 184 women involved in the study were divided into three separate groups: a cognitive restructuring group (those that took cognitive restructuring lessons), a support group (those who attended support groups to deal with the emotional stress of infertility), and a control group (those who sought no additional support for their infertility). Pregnancy rates amongst the women in the control reached only 20%, while pregnancy rates for the other two groups were between 54% and 55%. Therefore, it appears that the power of positive thought really may have an influence on your fertility.

STORIES OF "IMPOSSIBLE" NATURAL CONCEPTION IN WOMEN OVER 40

Wow, I could have written this article myself!  It is called, "IVF, and the great lie about fertility in the over 40's".  It gives stories of women who were "hopelessly infertile" and told they were unable to have children (and many had undergone failed IVF's) only to conceive naturally and have a baby!

From the article:

https://fertilityshop.blogspot.com/

What if women of 38 and over were needlessly spending thousands of pounds on IVF to get pregnant? Or if women who felt their families were already complete were having unwanted pregnancies because of the mistaken belief that their chances of conceiving were negligible?

Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics show that live births to mothers aged 40 and over have nearly doubled in the past decade, and the Mail revealed that the number of women having abortions in their 40s has risen by almost a third in ten years...

...It wasn’t until someone commented on my new cleavage that it occurred to me to take a pregnancy test. I had been so brainwashed into believing that I was too old for motherhood that I had not used contraception. I took four home pregnancy tests — all positive — before I made an appointment to see my GP.

Despite a trouble-free pregnancy, I could sense a feeling of caution whenever I went for a scan or a check-up, as if my pregnancy were a freak accident that was bound to end in tears. In fact my daughter, Deia, was born healthy and well...

LAYING STILL AFTER CONCEPTION = HIGHER PREGNANCY RATES

Lay still For Conception

I recall back when I started fertility treatments, we began with inseminations.
After the procedure, they had me sit still with my legs up in the air for 15 minutes. Apparently, according to this article, there is research to suggest this does help success rates. I'm sure if you're trying naturally, the same would be true. Lay still and let nature take its course! Read more:

Women who lie still for fifteen minutes after insemination, rather than getting up and walking around,

are more likely to get pregnant.

Women who have artificial insemination should lie back and stay still for 15 minutes after the procedure to "significantly" increase their chances of getting pregnant, scientists recommend today.

The Dutch researchers found that the pregnancy rate among women who did so was 27%, compared to 18% for for those who got straight up and moved around.

Writing in the British Medical Journal, they said clinics should offer facilities for "immobilisation", which was easy and cost very little, to allow women to lie still after insemination.

"Although immobilisation takes more time and occupies more space in busy rooms, the intervention will be economic in the long run, as pregnant patients will not return in subsequent cycles," the team, from the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam, said.

They studied 391 couples, getting 199 of the women to stay lying down and asking 192 to move around.

SAINT ANNE HAD BABY AT OLDER AGE

First, let me say I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a religious scholar.  But through my reading, I have discovered that the grandmother of Jesus (Mary's mother) was considered quite elderly when she had her daughter Mary.  Most sources say that Anne and her husband Joachim were
https://fertilityshop.blogspot.com/

married for 20 years and still had no children, although they certainly wanted them.  The legend suggests that Anne prayed that if she were given a child, she would dedicate it to the Lord's service.  An angel came to Anne and told her she would conceive a child.

They did have a child (again at an "elderly" age (although I can't seem to find how old she actually was) and of course named her Mary.  Even though they longed for this child, when Mary was three, they brought her to the Temple of Jerusalem where they left her to be brought up.  And, Mary became the mother of Jesus.

I realize I have a number of readers of different faiths, but every now and then I like to bring up historical stories of infertility and older motherhood.

ENDOCRINE FUNCTION BOOSTED WITH AMETHYST

Amethyst is one variation of quartz which is reported to have a number of helpful effects on the human body.  If you are trying to conceive, Amethyst is said to help hormone production by targeting the endocrine glands and the immune system.  It receives energy to sustain life and it gives the wearer energy to connect with all there is. It is even thought to help the human body fight off diseases like cancer.
Amethyst is thought to target the Crown Chakra which can help one connect to a higher

consciousness and awareness.  It can help foster spirituality and was even used by Catholic priests

because of this association.  Amethyst is frequently worn or used during meditation because of it's ability to help you connect  to the spiritual aspects of the universe.
Not only does Amethyst have all of these powerful qualities, but it is a beautiful stone and is seen in differing shades of purple.  The "purple ray" of Amethyst has been associated with Archangel Zadkiel who is thought to help with turning negative energy into positive and help with forgiveness and tolerance.

SURPRISE PREGNANCY AT 43, WOMAN TELLS HER STORY

I found this article to be very insightful about women's fertility and pregnancy over the age of 40.  Many women get pregnant by surprise forgetting that, despite the doom and gloom reported in the media about women having babies at older ages, women can be quite fertile even through their mid forties.  If they do get pregnant, they are bombarded with negative outcomes, when in fact, the vast majority  babies born to women over 40 are perfectly normal.
Read more from celebrate life magazine:

https://fertilityshop.blogspot.com/
Fertility Chakra Bracelet and more at the Fertility Shop click here
Media sensationalism and the protectionism bred by fear of medical malpractice lawsuits perpetuate the myth that having a child naturally later in life is virtually impossible —and therefore should be avoided.
The media’s infertility stories and glamorization of alternate means of achieving parenthood, along with medical experts’ reasonable cautions about pregnancy after age 35, have been distorted to mean that natural pregnancy after age 40 is rare and a significant health risk for mother and child. Yet the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states that “many older women show no greater signs of problems than do younger women. Age need not be a barrier to a safe, healthy pregnancy.”5

The well-publicized increased chance of chromosomal defects resulting in conditions such as Down syndrome and trisomy 18 can horrify women, even though such risks are actually still very small. According to the ACOG, at 43, my age-related risk for a Down syndrome baby was two percent and three percent for a baby with any chromosomal defect.6 According to my OB-GYN’s office, when my health and my baby’s ultrasound were factored in, the calculated risks were 1.5 percent for Down syndrome and .02 percent for trisomy 18. Thus, older women who are healthy enough to conceive naturally without “trying” are often healthier than age-related risk calculations might reflect.

Due to my age, I chose an OB-GYN practice that specialized in “high risk” pregnancies. Much screening and testing of my baby was recommended. Each time I refused a procedure, the physician meticulously recorded my refusal. At each subsequent appointment, I was asked to confirm that, if my baby were born with a birth defect, I had knowingly declined testing and the option of ending the pregnancy. The experience was emotionally disturbing and faith-testing, as I was tempted to second-guess my choices.

MOTHER'S DAY...WORST "HOLIDAY" FOR THE INFERTILE

Well, this "holiday" coming up may be the worst one of them all if you're trying to conceive. What could be harder than watching the rest of the country celebrate the joys of motherhood while you sit there stuck in infertility  quicksand.

I know much has been written by myself and others about surviving holidays while you're trying to conceive. Mother's day is a big one...so how do you get through it? Many years ago, I started the tradition of hosting a mother's day brunch at my house. I actually started this before I was even married and I continued it while I was struggling with infertility and miscarriage. Even though it seems counter-intuitive, it actually was a great thing to do. I love a good project and planning and
organizing a big get-together was just enough to keep my mind off my woes.

Even if you decide not to host a big get-together at your house, try to find something that's going to
https://fertilityshop.blogspot.com/
Stork Fertility/Pregnancy Necklace click here
keep you busy over the mother's day weekend. Since the weather's finally getting nicer, plan some outdoor activities. Work in your yard or garden, or plan a home improvement project. I can't tell you how many projects I completed during the six years I was trying to conceive. In retrospect, I'm glad I used my time productively...not only was it good for my mental health, but it was nice to get so many projects out of the way that I don't have time for now. It will be your turn one day...don't put your life on hold while you're waiting.

When I was trying to get pregant, I watched many mothers' days come and go. I remember thinking, wouldn't it be neat if I got pregnant right before mother's day and I could announce it to everyone on mother's day? Well...it never happens like that unless you're reading a romance novel or watching made-for-TV movie.

My advice? Don't ever put dates or deadlines on when you're going to get pregnant. You really will be setting yourself up for failure. Every pregnancy I had always came as a total shock (even though I was actively trying). I realize that when you're trying to conceive, every month is an opportunity for success, but it's when you start trying to force things into place that you get into trouble. If you're not pregnant this month, it doesn't mean that you're doomed. It simply means that you're not pregnant this month. When I really want something, I make my intentions known to the universe through visualization and meditation, and then I try to divert my attention elsewhere. That way I don't try too hard which essentially acts as a roadblock to my success.

XENOESTROGENS AND HOW THEY CAUSE INFERTILITY

Fertility and Hormone Regulation - Avoid Xenoestrogens

I have heard about xenoestrogens for many years and I talk about them in my book on how to overcome estrogen dominance.
This article discusses what things to do and avoid. I should mention, I don't agree with everything in this article (for instance, it says to avoid flax seeds, which were part of may pregnancy protocol), but it still as a lot of good information. Read more:

Did you know that synthetic estrogen and progestins are found in the urine of millions of women who

take either birth control pill or hormone replacement therapy and flushed them down the toilet ending up in rivers and lakes where your drinking water comes from? Water treatment involves adding chemicals like chlorine (also a hormonal disruptor) to kill E-coli bacteria, but nothing is done to remove harmful chemicals from your drinking water! Once your body becomes contaminated with toxic chemical, it stores it in the fatty tissue.
To purchase my book DVD on Fertility Bodywork or Pregnancy Meditation click here

Natural estrogen is responsible in stimulating cell division in hormone responsive tissue like the uterus lining, breast tissue and the ovaries. When xenoestrogen is overloading your body, it mimics the action of natural estrogen and stimulates tissue growth causing ovarian cysts, endometriosis, fibrocystic breast disease, and even cancer. When a women is said to suffer from estrogen dominance, it refers to the high level of estrogen over progesterone. That is why women who experience infertility are advised to detoxify before conception. Xenoestrogen can also cause miscarriages and luteal phase defect. It may be present in breast milk and cross the placenta during gestation and become especially harmful to the foetus during the development of the sexual organs.  http://www.natural-health-for-fertility.com/xenoestrogen.html

THE DANGERS OF FLUORIDE ADDED TO DRINKING WATER IN PREGNANCY

When I was trying to conceive, I was worried about the quality of my tap water, although I never had it tested, I bought bottled water and tried to get fluoride free water.  Fluoride is added to community water in most areas, but it has been associated with declining birth rates and hypothyroidism.
This articles explain more:

Findings We found that higher levels of fluoride in drinking water provide a useful contribution for
https://fertilityshop.blogspot.com/

predicting prevalence of hypothyroidism. We found that practices located in the West Midlands (a wholly fluoridated area) are nearly twice as likely to report high hypothyroidism prevalence in comparison to Greater Manchester (non-fluoridated area).

Interpretation In many areas of the world, hypothyroidism is a major health concern and in addition to other factors—such as iodine deficiency—fluoride exposure should be considered as a contributing factor. The findings of the study raise particular concerns about the validity of community fluoridation as a safe public health measure.

FERTILITY ENHANCED WITH MUSTARD! THE HERO OF CONDIMENTS!

I consider mustard to be the hero of condiments.  Why is mustard good for your health and fertility?  Mustard comes from the seeds of the mustard plant which is one of the superstar cruciferous vegetables.
Not only is mustard extremely healthy, but you can eat a lot of it, guilt free.  It is extremely low in calories and it adds a lot of tangy flavor to your food.  So what are the benefits of eating mustard if you are trying to conceive?
  • Mustard it high in phytonutrients which help regulate hormones.
 https://fertilityshop.blogspot.com/
See our selection of Fertility Bracelets
  • Mustard is high in Selenium which  has been found in large healthy follicles and it has been associated with a decreased risk of misarriage.
  •  Mustard is high in Magnesium. Magnesium supplementation has been shown to help previously infertile women succeed in getting pregnant.  The women in one study received supplemental magnesium which normalized their red cell magnesium levels and helped with fertility
  •  Mustard is a source of omega 3 fatty acids which can help with hormone production.

I've actually started adding some mustard to my balsamic vinegar salad dressing (I mix olive oil, balsamic vinegar and mustard with some salt and pepper).  It's really delicious and it adds a creamy texture to the dressing.  You can also eat "mustard greens"

WOMEN CAN BE FERTILE AND OVULATE MORE THAN ONCE PER MONTH

Pregnancy Over 40 and Ovulation

Here is an interesting article in it's entirety about how women can get pregnant at times other than the

traditional "ovulation time".  See guest post below.

Did You know Women Can Be Fertile Twice a Month?

Guest Post By Nadia MacLeod

It's true... and it's all because of the moon.
Most women watch their menstrual cycles and are taught that their prime time to fall pregnant is during mid cycle or biological ovulation.
What they might not know is that the moon can trigger ovulation and bring on fertility at any time during the menstrual cycle including before, after or even during your menstrual period. It all depends on what phase the moon was in when you were born.
The moon has been linked to female fertility for thousands of years. In fact, the ebb and flow of the moon is responsible for the spawning, mating and birthing behaviour of many creatures on our earth. So really, why should we humans be any different?
Intuitively, women have always understood that the moon, their menstrual cycles and fertility are intimately connected. In folklore and ancient traditions the connections between the three are taken as fact.
Consider the following:

  • A healthily fertile woman's menstrual cycle runs its course in about twenty-nine days, one lunar cycle.
  • A standard healthy pregnancy runs for 42 weeks or 10 lunar months.
  • The relationship between the moon's cycles and menstruation is so basic that our words, 'menstruation', 'moon' and 'month' all come from the Greek word for 'measure of time.'
Recent scientific research has revealed how the moon plays its part in female fertility. They have discovered that the production of the hormone Melatonin is controlled by the amount of moonlight reaching the eye.
The Body Clock, which is also responsible for our sleep / wake cycle, responds to the levels of moonlight reaching the eye to produce varying amounts of Melatonin. These Melatonin changes tell the ovaries, through other hormones to develop the egg at the beginning of the menstrual cycle and to release the eggs at mid cycle, so ovulation will occur.
When we all lived in huts or caves without artificial light, women generally bled on the new moon and ovulated and gave birth on the Full Moon. That's just the way it was.
But as humankind has embraced artificial light, the female fertility clock has been disturbed. Women now ovulate and give birth at any time during the lunar month. This means that women now have two fertility cycles to work with.
The truth is that the FULL Moon still exerts a powerful influence on women even if they were not born under that phase.
Many women find that they do in fact ovulate with the full moon. But if they were not born under the full moon phase then they will have a SECONDARY LUNAR fertility pattern that can and does trigger spontaneous ovulation.
Remember the moon's trigger effect is increased by two factors - stress and sexual intercourse. That is, if you are having sex during your lunar fertile time, the chances of ovulation being triggered and conception occurring increase.
This can come as quite a surprise to many people and can be very worrying for women who are not looking to get pregnant.
Being aware of lunar fertility and synchronising you biological cycle to your lunar cycle can be beneficial for many women.
For example:

  • if you are trying to avoid pregnancy it is essential to know when your natal lunar fertile time occurs so you are prepared with appropriate contraception.
  • if you are trying to fall pregnant, synchronising your cycle maximises your chance of falling pregnant at your fertile time, and
  • if your menstrual cycle is irregular then using the moon can be a simple, non invasive technique to help you get regular again.
