I recall going through six years of trying to conceive. The holidays back then were just a way of marking time...another year - no baby.
January was always such a relief because I could put all the holiday hoopla to rest. I wouldn't have to sit through tiring social get togethers for another year and I could get back into my comfortable routine.

Even though I went through six holiday seasons without a baby, somehow a new year always brought this is the year I'm going to have a baby. I often wondered if I was a glutton for punishment. What made me think the new year would be any different from all the rest? To make matters worse, one of the years I went through IVF, I got pregnant and found out I miscarried right before Christmas. There's nothing like having a miscarriage to put you in the holiday spirit. All sarcasm aside, somehow I kept on going. Even though my age, the statistics and my reproductive

new expectations:
history were against me, deep down I knew I couldn't quit.

My baby was somewhere hovering over me and I knew my persistence would pay off. The moral of the story is that the new year can be different. There's something about putting your past behind you that opens up new possibilities. Instead of seeing the new year as a reminder that you're still not pregnant, see it as a new start. That was then and this is now. Stay away from the naysayers (for me it was the reproductive endocrinologists) - they may derail you from your goal. So when I say Happy New Year, I mean it. Past performance does not predict future results.

Trying To Get Pregnant Over 40 Can Be Psychologically Difficult

I hear from women all the time who aren't just dealing with the physiological aspects of infertility, they are dealing with the emotional aspects as well - there are so many feelings that erupt inside of you.

I guess that's a nice way of saying they're downright angry, enraged, fuming, you name it. Almost anything dealing with pregnancy, children, and of course trying to conceive is a landmine ready to explode. This anger affects their relationships with family and friends and can be very isolating (sometimes its just easier to avoid everyone). All this anger has other side effects too. That constant churning in the pit of your stomach or in the center of your chest can't be helping your body prepare for conception or pregnancy.

Infertility Leads To Anger and Jealousy

I don't know why drug addicts or teenagers who eat junk food, smoke and drink get pregnant time after time...I've often wondered why the "powers that be" thought them more worthy than so many and jealousy will only keep you or at the very least delay you from realizing your dream of having a child.  Everyone is on their own path in life and your job is to prepare your body and mind for a new life.

couples who have so much to give to a new baby. None of us will ever know why things like that happen...but one thing I do know is that holding on to anger

Try To Get The Anger of Not Being Able To Get Pregnant Out of Your System

Remember your goal here is to get pregnant, right? Think of a baby deciding whether or not to come to you as their mother. Would they want a calm peaceful loving environment or one filled with rage, envy, and ill will? Perhaps it's no coincidence that I got pregnant with my daughter right after I screamed and cried so loud that I'm surprised my neighbors didn't come over. I finally got all that built up rage out of my system - I'm convinced it made made my body more receptive because I got pregnant with my daughter right after that.  Maybe you do need to find a private place to let it all out.  Believe me, it feels good to release the tension and "not be strong" if even for a little while.

Help Your Self To Conceive Over 40 With The Color Orange

When I was trying to conceive, I remember reading that the color orange is associated with fertility.
Wouldn't you know it, all of a sudden, my wardrobe started taking on a orange hue, a color I never would have thought of wearing in the past.  Somewhere along the line, it must have enhanced my fertility as I got pregnant naturally. This explains the fertility chakra and its association with the color orange:
Orange vibrates with the sacral chakra.
It is the chakra associated with the ovaries in women and the testicles in men.  Therefore, this chakra is key for fertility.

http://getpregnantover40.com/chakras-for-fertility.htmCarnelian is the stone associated with the Sacral  Chakra which controls women’s fertility.  Carnelian is said to improve blood flow and circulation which can be helpful in all aspects of health but particularly for the menstrual cycle and reproductive system.  It can also help with the absorption of nutrients and can help eliminate toxins from the body.  It is said to increase metabolism and energy.

Pregnancy Over 40, Trying To Conceive Over 40, Prayer May Help

As I've mentioned before, I have a diverse group of readers from all over the world who hold a whole host of religious beliefs.   So whatever your belief system, you may find this site helpful or at the very least interesting. I'll admit, I said many prayers on the road to parenthood but infertility and especially miscarriage can really test your faith. You never know, maybe all those prayers didn't necessarily cause a miracle, maybe they just helped me help myself.

Thank you, Lord, for all the blessings in my life. me to remember them as I face the challenges of infertility. I pray that I can surrender myself into your hands. Let me accept the reality of this situation and have the wisdom and courage to take action where I can. Strengthen my body, mind and spirit to endure the trials of infertility. Keep me ever mindful of the needs of others and grant us your peace. Amen.

Infection Could Be Cause Of Infertility

Saint Gerard Fertility Necklace
I have posted in the past, a couple of articles that may apply to many couples who are struggling with infertility.  I have now devoted a page on my website to infections that can harm your ability to get pregnant.
These articles bring up a very common but not well publicized cause of infertility: you may have an
underlying infection which can easily be treated. I'm not a big advocate of using or over-using antibiotics, but if you do have an infection, treating it could save you tens of thousands of dollars and the need to undergo risky assisted reproduction procedures.

I was surprised to read the huge percentage of infertile women who have these infections (a recent study that just hit the mass media was how many teenagers are now being diagnosed with STD's which could later harm their fertility). The possibility of infection should at least be something you talk with your doctor about. To my knowledge, I never had an infection in my reproductive system, but I was never tested either!

Supplements for Fertility

Guest Post By Yulia Berry
After years of doing your best not to get pregnant, suddenly you find yourself ready to have a baby. Ironically, it turns out that preventing it from happening turned out to be a lot easier than actually conceiving. When it comes to infertility, a lot of different factors can come into play including genetics, age, disease and even stress. However, one of the major contributing factors can be found in your diet and lifestyle. Just because you are know mentally ready to take on the diaper challenge, it does mean that your body is physically ready to either conceive or carry a child to term. But making the right diet and lifestyle changes, you can actually correct this problem and increase your fertility odds.
Where are some great supplements that couples can try to help conceive:
Essential Fatty Acids: Found in flax oil, cold water fish, sunflower seed, soybean, borage, walnut and safflower oil, EFA's can help your body effectively produce the prostaglandins needed to encourage proper hormonal balance. A stabilized hormone system is essential to ensure that your body is ready

for pregnancy
NAC (N-Acetyle Cysteine): This powerful antioxidant can help reduce testosterone and homocysteine levels in a woman's body, thereby increasing fertility. It is also great for general immune system and lung function.
Vitamin A: This is another beneficial antioxidant that can help with conception. It can help the body produce the right amounts of cervical mucus and protect male sperm from damaging effects of free radicals. Vitamin A deficiency is also shown to cause low sperm counts in men. The best natural sources for Beta Carotene are orange and yellow fruits and vegetables like, carrots, sweet potatoes, and cantaloupe. Other good sources are eggs, spinach and diary products
B Vitamins such as B6 and B12 can help keep woman's ovaries in good working order. Beans, nuts, eggs, meats, fish and whole grains are all great sources of B Vitamins.
d-Pinitol 600: This natural occurring compound has been found to be very beneficial for overall ovarian health. It is also shown to reduce insulin resistance: one of the leading causes of infertility
Chase Tree Extract:: This extract helps women maintain healthy levels of prolactin during monthly menstrual cycles. This can help trigger the production of progesterone which can help with ovulation and overall fertility
Vitamin C: Not only great for combating those nasty colds, this powerful antioxidant is also great for helping out with sperm motility. It is also great for enhancing the function of the thymus, neutralizing toxins and reducing stress (all factors in infertility). Great sources of C are citrus fruits, strawberries, watermelons, and peppers.
Vitamin E: Another powerful antioxidant that performs many roles including helping with fertility. It can help speed up the healing process and enhance thymus function. Avocados, Brussels sprouts, soy beans and unadulterated honey are all great natural sources of Vitamin E.
Coenzyme Q-10: This supplement can help improve overall cellular function and help maintain egg quality as you get older. It can also help repair cell damage caused by free radicals which can help increase the chances of implantation.

Fertility is not in your numbers

When I discontinued fertility treatments, it was such a relief to give up my dependence on doctors and lab values.  I absolutely did not want to have another lab test done.  Even when I knew I was pregnant with my daughter, I did not have an HcG test done (blood test), because I didn't want someone telling me that they weren't doubling etc.  As it turns out, this was my successful pregnancy.  Having labwork done would have done nothing for me.  Here is an article about how women should not put so much emphasis on their "numbers"

There is so much more to health and fertility than the
Fertile Turtle Bracelets, Click here
numbers: One of my greatest challenges as a Chinese
medical practitioner is getting patients to let go of the
numbers and listen to what their body is telling them.
When you follow your body’s wisdom instead of a book,
test, doctor’s order, or advise column you are much more
likely to be on the right track.
A woman in her 40s might listen to her body and say,
“well, I feel good, my energy is good, digestion is fine, I
sleep well, go on walks, have little to no PMS, and my
emotions are even.” With all this information, her age is
just a number and she can know she is fertile. On the
other hand, a woman in her 20s might listen to her body
and know she is very out of balance. She may feel anxious
and nauseated, tired all the time, irritable with PMS,
not sleep well, and have chronic migraines. Despite her
age she might know that she needs to do some work to
improve her fertility.
So, the next time you want to focus on just one number,
ask yourself, what does that number really mean to me?
Be honest with your emotions and express them. Check in
with yourself and see how you are feeling overall (does it
match the number or not?) Remind yourself that numbers
can be misleading, and know that numbers can change.
Then, take a step back, look at the big picture and let
those numbers go!

Crystals for Childbirth

Guest Post By Ron Windred

Crystals to help with Childbirth; assisting in a smooth, easy and quick labour:

The all time classic crystal for assisting with childbirth would have to be Moonstone. If you could only choose one crystal, Moonstone would be it. Moonstone is the Divine Feminine stone; it works with the moon and cycles, covers shifting energies from fertility to preparing the womb for conception, then to providing smooth process and easiness in pregnancy and childbirth and with breastfeeding. Moonstone also helps with fluid retention, which by the end of pregnancy can become an issue with some. It also helps deal with the feelings of vulnerability that can arise, as well as balancing your hormones and emotions.
There are several other crystals that can be helpful to you at this time.
Rose Quartz is the stone of unconditional love; its soothing energy provides emotional balance, security and peace. It allows you to truly embrace unreserved love and the magic of childbirth, allowing you to connect deeply with yourself, your baby and the whole universe.
Azurite clears stress and worry, and encourages the development of the embryo in the womb.
Unakite is a good crystal for healthy pregnancies and to facilitate health of the unborn child.
In late pregnancy some people find insomnia all too much. Crystals like Amethyst, Moonstone, Nephrite Jade and Howlite are quite beneficial at this time and after the birth.
Malachite eases the birthing process and is also a very protective stone that can provide security during pregnancy and childbirth.
Moss Agate is good for childbirth as it helps with a good delivery and eases the process.
Jade is also good for childbirth as it's a very nurturing stone.
Peridot is an excellent facilitator of the birthing process.
Bloodstone and Carnelian are also good for childbirth and they will keep you well and grounded also.
Larimar helps to retune your innate femininity and restore your connection to nature. It is a superb stone for mothers during and after pregnancy. It can alleviate post-partum depression and relax the stress associated with new parenthood.
Agate encourages regeneration and growth. It heals and protects the uterus, guards from prolapse of the uterus and encourages normal shrinkage of the uterus after childbirth.
Dealing with pain of delivery can be a problem and relief and support can be provided by Amber, Emerald, Hematite, Lapis Lazuli, Moonstone and Moss Agate.
The most important crystal to help you in the process is the one you are most attracted to or perhaps your favourite stone, and if it is one of the above, then so much the better.
Just keep the selected stone or stones with you, maybe in a pouch that you can keep close-by. It would be good if you could hold onto these during the delivery.
It would also be good if you are able to create a small layout or grid using the above set under your bed during pregnancy and later put under the delivery bed or table if you're able to. Simply place the stones in a circle with either a Moonstone or a Rose Quartz in the middle, or place them according to

your intuition. A circle was chosen because it represents the unbroken, loving energy, or the circle of life. What better way to bring a new soul into this life.
What I would suggest is to set the grid under the bed or mattress so the crystals are out of harm's way. This is also the best place to keep a constant energy flow throughout the labour itself and so as not to not disturb the layout.

10 Characteristics of Women's Energy Bodies

Guest Post By Lisa Erickson
Spiritual and energy anatomy traditions including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tibetan Tantric Buddhism, kundalini yoga, wicca, Kabbalah and more describe differences between the way women's and men's energy, or subtle, bodies function. If you are familiar with the chakras or meridians, you already know what 'energy body' means. If not, then just think of your subtle body like a field of energy that encompasses and interacts with your physical body. Understanding how your energy body works can help you to improve your health, intuition, personal power, and spiritual growth.
The following list is compiled from a variety of traditions, and not all of them may resonate with you. But read through them, and try experimenting with those that seem most true to you.
1) Women's Energy is Centripetal, Men's is Centrifugal

The idea here is that by default women's energy circles inward, and is therefore attractive, drawing things towards it, while by default men's energy cycles outwards, projecting rather than attracting. Both men and women can control and reverse this with their intent (conscious or unconscious) but by default women's energy is centripetal and men's is centrifugal. This especially comes into play with sexual energy, and the different ways the two sexes try and attract sexual partners. It also comes into play in families, with the women in any familial group said to be the energetic 'organizing principle', because of this centripetal quality.
2) Women's Energy Bodies are More Sensitive/Absorbant, Men's are More Solid/Protective

Women's energy bodies are also generally said to be more sensitive to external energies, and more likely to absorb these energies, rather than repel them. This has pros and cons, as external energy can serve as the 'raw data' for intuition, but absorbing too much energy, or the wrong kind, can deplete or disperse a women's energy field more quickly in certain situations, for example, in a large crowd.
3) Women's Energy is More Fluid, Men's More Fixed

Related to the idea that women's energy bodies are more receptive is the idea that they are more fluid - that they change more rapidly and more often than men's, in response to the environment and other people. In nature, this can mean that women merge energetically with their environment more readily and quickly, and the same thing in a group of people (so obviously this also has pros and cons, depending on what you are merging with.)

SEE ALSO: CHAKRAS FOR FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)

4) Women's Energy Bodies are More Expansive

Also along these lines is the idea that women can expand their energy fields to encompass others around them more readily (think Bella as a vampire in the Twilight series if you have read it.) Personally, I am not so sure on this one, apart from a mother's energetic relationship with her children (which I'll get to in a minute), as I have seen more men with powerful protective abilities in this regard, perhaps because I have known many martial artists. The centrifugal nature of men's energy seems to actually make their energy fields more readily expandable, in this sense, to me.
5) Women's Energy Bodies are Fertile Ground for Energy Lines

This one is a touchy one. The idea with this one is that in interactions with others, and especially in close relationships, women become the anchor line energetically for both parties. In sexual terms, some traditions teach that a woman actually gets an energy line 'planted' in her energy body with every sexual encounter, that can take years to cut if she wishes to do so (and that this is not the case, or at least less so, for men.) But it's not just sexual energy lines, it's really in all kinds of relationships - the idea is that women naturally harbor these lines. And that this can become especially problematic for us if we are 'anchoring' too many people for us to handle.
6) Maternal Energy Lines are Distinct, and Progress Through Time

This one concerns the energy line between mother and child. The idea is that the first 3-6 months after birth, a child really is an extension of his or her mother energetically - their energy fields are merged. Gradually over time this energy connection separates, and the child becomes a distinct energetic being, although a unique energy line remains between them for life. The energy line between father and child, or other relatives, is established through other means, through emotional bonding and history, rather than through this intrinsic energetic line.
7) A Women's Energy Body is Cyclical

There are lots of variations on this one, but the primary one is that the nature of a women's energy body shifts over the course of her menstrual cycle. Her energy body is 'more' of all the things listed above - centripetal, sensitive, fluid, etc. in the days leading up to menstruation, and especially right before and during, and then is a little less so in the days leading up to ovulation. So her energy body is always waxing and waning (moon cycle and all that!) in this way.
8 ) Women's Energy Bodies Have Distinct Life Phases

Tied to this is the idea that women's energy bodies go through very distinct shifts corresponding to the major reproductive-related physical changes they experience during their lifetime: The onset of menstruation, sexual maturity, pregnancy, nursing, perimenopause, and menopause. This has implications for both their energy health and spiritual path at each point along the way.
9) The 2nd, or Sacral, Chakra Plays a Unique Role in Women

Because of #s 6 - 8, the chakra or energy center related to women's reproductive system, the 2nd or

sacral chakra, plays a unique role in their personal power and energy health. Just as women and men are each at risk for different physical illnesses because of their physical and hormonal differences, they are at risk for different energetic issues as well. And in the case of the 2nd chakra, this means that any damage or blocks related to it are particularly damaging to women. And conversely, that a healthy sacral chakra has even more benefits.
10) A Women's Sacral Chakra is a Unique Spiritual Doorway

This comes up in some form in all the 'sacred feminine' traditions, even in those that don't define chakras per se. The idea is that the 2nd chakra (or corresponding area in other systems) in women can function like a portal, a doorway to other dimensions and to spiritual insight, in a way that in mainstream teachings usually only the third eye and crown chakra are said to.
Working with your energy body in a conscious way can open up new doorways for you in many areas of your life.

I said many prayers on my journey to have a child.  I grew up Catholic and I can't say I've stuck with any religion as I have gotten older, but there certainly is some comfort in knowing that I can always fall back on some religious teachings.
The concept of angels has always been very intriguing to me.  So what are angels?  In the Christian sense, angels are messengers.  According to CBN,
Angels are spiritual beings created by God to serve Him. They are very powerful beings who function as God's messengers. Many times in the Bible they appeared to people and said, "I have come as a messenger from the Lord."

SEE ALSO, SAINT GERARD FOR FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)

The New Testament tells us they are also ministering spirits sent to look after human beings who are the heirs of salvation (see Hebrews 1:14). Jesus seemed to indicate that little children have angels assigned to them, for He said their angels always behold the face of God (see Matthew 18:10). So the concept of guardian angels has its basis in the Bible.

So how do you pray to angels?  Here is a prayer for conception:
