CAN THANKSGIVING SWEET POTATOES HELP YOU GET PREGNANT?

Certain Types of Yams May Lead To More Twin Births

We all know that there are more twins nowadays with the use of fertility drugs.
However, it was recently reported that in an area in Nigeria the incidence of twins is quite common.
No one knows exactly why, but one possibility is that their diet is quite high in yams. Based on previous research I have done, the yams which may stimulate ovulation are not the kind you eat on
Thanksgiving, They are a variety called "Dioscorea villosa".
When I was trying to conceive, I looked for these yams (Dioscorea villosa) at every health food store

in my area and I couldn't find them (when I asked, they looked at me like I was speaking Greek). Perhaps they are more common in other areas around the US and the world.
Even though Thanksgiving sweet potatoes aren't famous for producing twins, they are extremely good for fertility due to their nutrients.  Here is the article about
sweet potatoes for fertility:

SHOULD YOU EAT SOY IF YOU'RE TRYING TO CONCEIVE?

Does Soy Help Or Hurt Fertility?

It seems that lately there's been a Soy "backlash". First you hear how good it is for overall health and fertility, then all of a sudden it's bad. I did make Soy part of my diet while I was trying to conceive, and I can tell you from experience, it didn't hurt my fertility. Besides, think of all of the Asian cultures where soy is a staple in their diet...they certainly don't seem to be underpopulated! One argument that critics of soy make is that Asian cultures eat fermented soy like tofu which is healthier.

Most Americans are consuming unfermented soy which is supposedly worse than the fermented variety. Unfermented soy has phytates which may interfere with nutrient absorption. Some of the most popular unfermented soy products are soymilk, tofu, soy nuts and soy meat alternatives. Fermented soy includes miso, soy sauce, tempeh, and natto.

In general, women could benefit from eating more fruits and vegetables. If you're concerned about Soy, eat it in moderation. It's a great source of vegetable protein and there's so many different ways to
get it in your diet.  Protein is a necessary component of hormone production.
Here is an article that I've published before and it addresses soy and fertility:

Our results suggest that a high-soy diet probably won't compromise fertility in women," says researcher Jay Kaplan, PhD, of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, in a news release. The results of the study were presented today at the annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

50 YEAR OLD WOMAN'S SURPRISE SUCCESSFUL PREGNANCY

Pregnant Naturally at 50

Getting pregnant naturally at or over the age of 40 doesn't surprise most people, but what about getting naturally at 50?

Yes, it happens...I myself had a surprise pregnancy at the age of 49  but I miscarried click here for more on my surprise pregnancy at 49 -getpregnantover40.com). My point here is that it does happen - sometimes when you least expect it. Here is one woman's story:

This baby was a complete surprise. I'd tried to have another baby after my son was born when I was 41, but after four miscarriages I finally gave up hope that I would have another child. My periods stopped abruptly when I moved to the East Coast to take a new teaching job, and I accepted the fact that I had started menopause.

My husband, John, and I were in New York for a weekend workshop when I noticed that my breasts had started swelling and felt tender. "Maybe I'm pregnant," I quipped to John, not really believing it. Then I squeezed a nipple and got a little milky fluid. "Oops! This doesn't feel like menopause!" I said.

I felt very ambivalent about being pregnant again. If the pregnancy continues, I thought, fine; I'll have another baby. If it doesn't, that's fine, too, because I can pursue my new career. After four miscarriages, I was afraid to get very excited. I didn't want to be disappointed again.

I felt a little embarrassed going to the doctor and admitting I was pregnant at my age. Then I asked the important question: "Given my history of miscarriage, do you think I can carry this baby to term?" The doctor was matter-of-fact: "I don't see why not." I asked her about checking my progesterone level to make sure it was high enough to maintain the pregnancy during the first trimester. She didn't seem very concerned. However, I was; so every time I felt a twinge that resembled a cramp, I rubbed natural progesterone cream on my belly. I have no idea if it helped prevent an early miscarriage, but it did ease my mind somewhat.

INFERTILE LABELS: SELF FULFILLING PROPHECY

Infertility:  I Can't Have A Baby, Don't Say It!

Did you ever notice that somehow people seem to live up to their "labels"? I recall back when I was in elementary school, the kids that were labeled "difficult" or "troublemakers" seemed to live up to their reputations. It's almost like they couldn't break free from it.
See also: www.getpregnantover40.com for trying to conceive with vision boards
So what does this have to do with getting pregnant? Well...if you're having trouble conceiving, labeling yourself "infertile" may actually make you infertile. Who knows how our brains latch on to things...I know, for me, whenever I know I can do something, I do it. When I think or "know" I can't
http://getpregnantover40.com/chakras-for-fertility.htm
Sacral Chakra Necklace, Love Dream Trust Hope
do something, I can't.

Years ago, when I was engaged to be married, people asked me if we were going to have kids, and I would laugh and say "oh I'm probably infertile....haha". I wonder how much that was a self fufilling prophecy? I never wanted kids when I was younger. As a matter of fact, when I went to my 20 year high school reunion, people would say to me, "you always said you didn't want kids, and here you are, 20 years later, you were true to your word". Little did they know that I was trying to get pregnant at the time. I didn't share that with anyone because it was so out of character for me to want kids!

The moral of the story is, if you've been trying to get pregnant for a while (perhaps a year or longer) try labeling yourself "a future mom". It may change what you manifest in your life.

Here is an article about the power of our words and their connection to what we bring into our life:

Another very important aspect of conscious language is the LAW OF FOCUS. What ever we place our attention on is what we create. It's important to focus on the positive thing we desire rather than the negative thing we want to avoid. For example, never focus on NOT AGING. Focusing on not aging ensures that you will age and quickly. Instead focus on being healthy, vibrant, and youthful.

KOKOPELLI, FERTILITY SYMBOL EXPLAINED

http://www.getpregnantover40.com/fertility-jewelry-fertility-gemsThe Kokopelli symbol originated from the Native American culture. It has the flute player with feathers on his head. This is a well known and well accepted symbol for fertility. Kokopelli is thought to carry an unborn babies on his back and gives them to women. Like many fertility symbols, Kokopelli also represents fertility in terms of agriculture. His flute is thought to chase away winter and bring in the warmer weather of spring.  He has the power to grow things... not just in agriculture, but human life as well.  This is why he is considered an aid to women trying to conceive.  Kokopelli is thought to be fun loving, music making and a bit of a trickster....sounds like the true spirit of a child which you want to
bring into your life!

Kokopelli is thought to bring good luck It is believed that his good luck powers came from his power
to create life.  Unmarried women who don't want children are supposed to avoid him. It is said that you should be careful if you sleep at some campgrounds near ancient carvings of Kokopelli because wives and daughters can wind up pregnant if you're not careful!

Kokopelli is so widely accepted as a fertility symbol that one of the major fertility associations had a gala event called the "Kokopelli Ball".  This event honored those professionals, individuals and organizations that further the field of infertility research and treatment.

HOW ACUPRESSURE CAN HELP YOU CONCEIVE

Pregnancy Over 40, Fertility Over 40, How Acupressure Can Help

I've written before about how acupressure points throughout your body can enhance ovulation and fertility. I did an entire video on acupressure, reflexology and fertility yoga called:, "Fertility Bodywork" (www.getpregnantover40.com), I show how you can perform acupressure (and reflexology)on yourself if you don't want to seek the services of an outside professional.
Picture:  www.acupressure.com
Here is a site that explains acupressure and acupuncture:

What is Acupressure?

Acupressure is an ancient healing art using the fingers to gradually press key healing points, which stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. Acupressure was developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago. Using the power and sensitivity of the hand, Acupressure Therapy is effective in the relief of stress-related ailments, and is ideal for self-treatment and preventive health care for boosting the immune system. Acupressure releases tension, increases circulation, reduces pain, and develops spirituality and vibrant health.

Acupuncture & Acupressure use the same pressure points and meridians, but Acupuncture employs needles, while Acupressure uses gentle to firm finger pressure. When these acupressure points are stimulated, they release muscular tension, promote circulation of blood, and enhance the body's life force energy to aid healing. Acupressure therapy can be used to relieve pain, fortify the sexual reproductive system, detoxify the body for greater health and beauty, and tone facial and back muscles.

After marrying at the age of 18, Susan and her husband Alan fell out and divorced at the age of 20. The couple didn’t speak for almost 30 years but then found one another on friends Reunited and decided splitting up was a terrible mistake. Within four months they got married in Las Vegas and against all the odds just three weeks after they came back, Susan discovered she was pregnant.
Susan had never been pregnant before and has no other children. Alan – who has a daughter from a previous marriage – was shocked.

TCM, HERBS: TOOLS FOR THE BABY MAKER

Traditional Chinese Medicine Helps Women Get Pregnant

I'm always finding success stories about women over 40 who use alternative treatments or traditional chinese medicine to get pregnant. Although I didn't use these methods to conceive my daughter, I certainly think they are a good option for some couples.  I did, however, work on increasing pelvic circulation as I show in my DVD on Fertility Bodywork (www.getpregnantover40.com).
Read more about  Dr Xiao-Ping Zhai:

The first – and as yet only – woman Zhai sent over to the London Fertility Centre successfully conceived on her second try – at the age of 43. Amanda (not her real name) married when she was 40 and started trying immediately with no success. Her baby is due on 1 January next year and she is over the moon.

"I'm now 44," she says. "I'd had three IUIs and IVF before going to Zhai, and my consultant told me to give up because I was just too old and my eggs were too weak. I saw Zhai throughout 2008 and then we did one IUI in the LFC and I got pregnant but miscarried. The second time, in April, it worked. I was 43. I still can't believe it. It can only be because of her – not only did she improve my egg quality, but the IUI at the LFC, with her in charge, was completely different to any other clinic, where you are aware that, really, you have people around you thinking you're past it and should have a donor egg."

Watching a Zhai consultation is bizarre. She will check the tongue, the pulse, sleep patterns, whether a patient is thirsty, peeing a lot and their bowel movements. Often changes are made to the diet – no sugar, coffee, alcohol, dairy, wheat, spicy foods – and every month a woman is asked to keep a temperature chart.
Slowly, through the use of herbs and acupuncture, Zhai begins to regulate the vital energy, or Qi, that flows through the body. According to this ancient practice, good health and metabolism depend on Qi. As it flows, it provides warmth and distributes body fluids.
Each organ has its own pattern of Qi and each organ is represented on the tongue, which presents Zhai with a kind of map of the body's health. If one organ is not functioning properly, it affects the rest of the body: "It only takes one thing to be wrong to throw the whole system out," she explains.
Common diagnoses seem to be too much liver heat and blood stagnation, damp-heat obstruction in the abdomen, slow blood circulation to the ovaries – you get the picture.
Zhai says she can start seeing changes within three months but will not put a time frame on treatment: "Every woman is different."
The herbs she uses are mostly shipped in from China and made up to her prescriptions, although she is currently looking at manufacturing them in the UK. They include carthamus flower (huang hua) for regulating the flow of Qi to alleviate pain, glossy privet fruit (nu zhen zi) for nourishing the kidney and liver, as well as peach kernel, angelica root and codonopsis root.

SUGAR HARMS SPERM

Trying To Conceive Over 40, Women and Men Should Avoid Too Much Sugar

Where do we begin....sugar is bad on so many levels.
It has been blamed for everything from the obesity epidemic, and from my standpoint it harms fertility in both women and men.  In women, the insulin resistance can disrupt hormones, and in men, according to this article it can harm semen.  It is unclear whether its the sugar itself that causes problems or if it is the after effects of the sugar that is the culprit (i.e. high blood sugar, obesity, diabetes, etc.) Read more:

SEE ALSO: MALE FACTOR INFERTILITY: INCREASE SPERM COUNT (getpregnantover40.com)

The body also turns surplus sugar into fat and stores it around the vital organs, placing us at risk of liver and heart disease.
Some experts now believe excess sugar is behind the UK’s enormous rise in obesity.

There are also fears that high sugar diets and the spikes of insulin they trigger may fuel the growth of cancerous tumours, while other research has found that sugar may coat semen and damage male fertility.

I THOUGHT I WAS A VICTIM OF INFERTILITY BUT I WASN'T!

You are in charge of your fertility, not the doctors!

It seems after the "Secret" came out some years back that everyone is talking about the law of attraction...how you manifest in your life what you focus on.  If you label yourself "infertile", guess what? You are going to attract infertility into your life.  This is something that I realized when I was trying to conceive...I needed to refocus my thoughts on how I was going to have a baby and seeing myself pregnant and having a child.  Prior to that, my focus was on how hard it was to get pregnant
and how I was struggling with "infertility".  It's a small shift, but it makes a huge difference.  I also "gave responsibility for my fertility" to the doctors when I started fertility treatments (which all failed and left me with only one fallopian tube after IVF left me with an ectopic pregnancy.
