OVULATION CAN BE DETECTED WITH SIDE PAIN

Pain During Ovulation

Mittleschmerz!!  No, that's not what you say when someone sneezes - but it might be what you say when someone ovulates. Mittleschmerz translated literally means "middle pain" usually associated with ovulation.
I always considered myself lucky when I was TTC that I did experience mittleschmerz because I knew we were on target with our intercourse schedule (and it was a schedule back then). Here is an article that explains more about mittleschmerz (it also addresses why some women may have some spotting around the time of ovulation):

"The pain is thought to be due to accompanying slight bleeding into the linings of the wall of the pelvis called the peritoneum.

Free blood in contact with the peritoneum causes irritation, transmitted as mid-cycle pain.

The bleeding may even track out as vaginal very small vaginal spotting.

The pain is usually in the lower abdomen, right or left side depending on which side an egg is released from.

The pain could be so specific that a woman may be able to tell from which ovary she has released an egg for that month. It may be severe enough to cause disruptions of normal day to day activities."
