ALL ABOUT "UNEXPLAINED INFERTILITY

Pregnancy Over 40, Unexplained Infertility Means They Don't Know

Many women/couples have a diagnosis of "unexplained infertility". You may wonder, what does that mean? Well...it basically means nobody knows why you're not getting pregnant.

The difficult part about being over 40 is that it is very tempting for the medical community, in absence of any other diagnosis, to blame it on your age. Okay, I admit, it probably does take a woman over 40 longer to conceive, but studies have shown that many women/couples with unexplained infertility will conceive in the second year of trying rather than the first.

If you suffer from recurrent miscarriage, that's another ball game. Try to get one of these doctors to tell you why you're miscarrying! My experience was, since I was over 40, they didn't even bother trying to figure it out. I was given the miscarriage statistics at my age and that was it. Well, let me clarify that - one RE did do a hysteroscopy after one of my miscarriages but my uterus looked clean as a whistle and as normal as can be (then he fell back on the miscarriage statistics over 40) Another RE wanted to do a whole work-up on whether or not my immune system was the culprit, however due to the cost involved and our lost faith in the medical system, we declined.

My advice? If you fall in the unexplained category (and you're sure that everything's been ruled out), do everything you can to promote your fertility naturally, then keep trying. Of course, there are no guarantees, but I have many stories of couples who stayed the course and eventually succeeded.
