LAUGHTER SHOWN TO HELP WOMEN GET PREGNANT

Trying To Get Pregnant Over 40?  Start Laughing!

The old saying "laughter is the best medicine" may have something to it.
I mention in my book that laughter has many healing benefits and when I was trying to conceive, I would make a point of watching the funny videos show. You can't help but laugh, even if you don't feel like it (that's when you need it the most).
This article talks about an IVF clinic who had a clown visit patients after their procedures had higher success rates. It may be worth a try! Read more:

This experimental prospective quasi-randomized study examining the impact of a medical clowning encounter after embryo transfer (ET) after in vitro fertilization (IVF) found that the pregnancy rate in the intervention group was 36.4%, compared with 20.2% in the control group (adjusted odds ratio, 2.67; 95% confidence interval, 1.36–5.24). Medical clowning as an adjunct to IVF-ET may have a beneficial effect on pregnancy rates and deserves further investigation.sciencedirect.com

FERTILITY CHAKRA, THE COLOR ORANGE TO GET PREGNANT

Help Your Self To Conceive Over 40 With The Color Orange

When I was trying to conceive, I remember reading that the color orange is associated with fertility.
Wouldn't you know it, all of a sudden, my wardrobe started taking on a orange hue, a color I never would have thought of wearing in the past.  Somewhere along the line, it must have enhanced my fertility as I got pregnant naturally. This explains the fertility chakra and its association with the color orange:
Orange vibrates with the sacral chakra.
It is the chakra associated with the ovaries in women and the testicles in men.  Therefore, this chakra is key for fertility.

Carnelian is the stone associated with the Sacral  Chakra which controls women’s fertility.  Carnelian is said to improve blood flow and circulation which can be helpful in all aspects of health but particularly for the menstrual cycle and reproductive system.  It can also help with the absorption of nutrients and can help eliminate toxins from the body.  It is said to increase metabolism and energy.

PREGNANT NATURALLY AT 53 WHILE ON PILL

I'm always amazed at the number of women who not only get pregnant over 40 naturally, but also women who get pregnant over 50 naturally.  What makes this case remarkable is  the woman in the story got pregnant by surprise at the age of 53, and she was on the pill at the time.  She also admits to a "once in a blue moon" love life!  What are the odds of that?  Her pregnancy had a fairytale ending too.  She carried to term and had a healthy baby after a natural delivery.

At the time of her pregnancy she also had two grandchildren from her two grown kids.  After delivering her baby, she said her motherly instinct kicked in right a way and her age just was not a factor (except to the doctors who, when finding out her age, automatically assumed she had donor eggs!)

The article also mentions a few other women who had natural pregnancies in their 50's including one at 59 and one at 55!  Researchers from Israel’s Hadassah University Hospital reported at a major European fertility conference that there may be a genetic combination in some women which can  slow aging of the ovaries and protect against cellular damage making older age pregnancies more likely.

UNEXPLAINED INFERTILITY: COULD SPERM BE CAUSE?

Many couples who have trouble getting pregnant receive a diagnosis of unexplained infertility.  However, after undergoing numerous tests, their fertility clinic can't seem to find anything wrong.  The problem could in in the sperm.  Up until now, sperm have been examined under the microscope for volume, motility, morphology etc.  However a new test has become available that will actually look at the DNA of the sperm and many previously undetectable problem can be identified.
The test is called "Spermcomet" and it may help get to the bottom of "unexplained infertility"

SEE ALSO: NATURAL WAYS TO IMPROVE MENS FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)

... the SpermComet test, developed by leading fertility doctor Professor Sheena Lewis, checks for tiny tears and breaks in sperm’s DNA.
Sperm with damage to their genetic material are less likely to make a woman pregnant and if a woman does conceive, she is more likely to miscarry.
The test uses chemicals to ‘relax’ the tightly coiled strands of DNA in each individual sperm and then uses an electric field to separate them out.
Intact DNA bunches together and shines brightly, like the head of a comet, while broken material fans out and gives off a weaker glow.
By looking at the length of the tail of damaged DNA, the scientists can tell how badly affected a man’s sperm is.

SPONTANEOUS CONCEPTION AFTER IVF: 1/3 OF COUPLES CONCEIVE NATURALLY

If you keep hearing about women and couples getting pregnant naturally after IVF, there may be a good reason why.  One third of couples who have a child through IVF get pregnant naturally for a subsequent pregnancy.  Why is this happening?  There are a number of reasons that could be behind these numbers.  First, IVF technology is constantly improving and everyone seems to be willing to jump into the procedure because of higher success rates when many of these couples would conceive naturally if given time.  If a couple has unexplained infertility (as I did), that doesn't necessarily mean they can't get pregnant, it just means that they haven't got pregnant YET.  Sometimes small changes in lifestyle, stress, body weight, diet, sleep patterns etc. can tip the odds in their favor.

FOR MORE ARTICLES ON NATURAL CONCEPTION AFTER IVF SEE: getpregnantover40.com

In some previous blog posts, and from my own experience, I have mentioned something called "hormonal hangover".  This is when the drugs from IVF stay in your system and can not only cause problems if you do get pregnant, but they can throw the delicate balance of your natural hormones out of whack.  It makes me sad and a little angry to think about how much time, money and physical pain I endured needlessly with fertility treatments.  I believe these treatments actually kept me from getting pregnant naturally.  One of my IVF cycles led to an ectopic pregnancy where one of my tubes had to be removed (ectopic pregnancies are more common with IVF) and this not only decreased my chances of getting pregnant when I was ovulating on that side, but it also led to emergency surgery, and time lost when trying to conceive.

AGE RELATED INFERTILITY OVER-EXAGGERATED!

If you have been reading my blogs and website, you know that I constantly try to paint the REAL picture of how it is possible to get pregnant at older ages naturally.  I have been researching this for years and what I do know is that the media loves to present the "doom and gloom" picture rather than looking at the glass half full.  In the words of a a friend and science teacher:  "the glass is always half full"....of course she was talking about the other half being full of air, and I am talking about the media being full of HOT air!

I love this article that presents some widely reported statistics and how they scare women needlessly:

SEE ALSO: THE REAL RATE OF BIRTH DEFECTS AND PREGNANCY COMPLICATIONS OVER AGE 40 (getpregnantover40.com)

The widely cited statistic that one in three women ages 35 to 39 will not be pregnant after a year of trying, for instance, is based on an article published in 2004 in the journal Human Reproduction. Rarely mentioned is the source of the data: French birth records from 1670 to 1830. The chance of remaining childless—30 percent—was also calculated based on historical populations.
In other words, millions of women are being told when to get pregnant based on statistics from a time before electricity, antibiotics, or fertility treatment. Most people assume these numbers are based on large, well-conducted studies of modern women, but they are not. When I mention this to friends and associates, by far the most common reaction is: “No … No way. Really?”

THYROID CONNECTION TO INFERTILITY

It's no secret that your thyroid is related to proper body temperature regulation and hormone regulation.  If you do happen to get pregnant, thyroid irregularities can lead to miscarriage and pregnancy complications.  Signs that you may have thyroid problems include:
  •  Irregular Cycles
  • Anovulatory cycles (this could be identified by skipping periods although you can still have a period even if you don't ovulate)
  •  High prolactin levels
  • Estrogen dominance
  • Progesterone deficiency
  • Increase in body hair
  • Heavy periods
So, are there natural ways to help your thyroid?

IVF: 5 TIMES MORE COMPLICATIONS IN BABIES

Even though I'm an advocate of getting pregnant naturally, even I was surprised to hear that babies born through IVF have five times the risk of complications such as early infant death, stillbirth and prematurity. What is even more surprising is that the figures excluded women with multiple births.  One researcher who previously link IVF with a higher incidence of birth defects described something called "hormonal hangover" which was his way of describing how fertility drugs can stay in a woman's system and affect the uterus and the placenta.

SEE ALSO: IVF OVER 40 (getpregnantover40.com)

According to the article:
"Professor Davies also warned that there is an ‘urgent need’ to track the long-term health of babies born through IVF.
He added: ‘It is appropriate that we are informed of the risks associated with the therapy and the source of that risk, so we can make informed decisions.’
Around 50,000 women in the UK have IVF each year leading to 17,000 births. Dr Geeta Nargund, medical director of the London Create fertility clinic, said doctors should make IVF ‘as safe as possible’ by not using high doses of drugs."

CAN PROBIOTICS HELP YOU GET PREGNANT

How can probiotics maintain vaginal balance?

So what are probiotics?  Whether you realize it or not, our bodies are hosts to many organisms, most of which are beneficial.  The surface tissues like skin and mucous tissues have what we call "normal flora" which are bacteria that are normally found in the human body and help with everything from our immune response, protection from infection, to digestion and maintaining a normal vaginal pH (acidic vs. alkaline).
So how can probiotics help your vaginal pH and your overall fertility? They can help repopulate your body with the normal bacteria to keep the balance...

YOUR FAITH QUESTIONED WITH INFERTILITY

Pregnancy Over 40, Trying To Conceive Over 40, A Question Of Faith

I said many prayers on the road to parenthood, and I must admit, for many years, none of them were answered.
In hindsight, I do see that everything worked out for the best, but six years of infertility, recurrent miscarriage, and endless waiting can test even the strongest of faith. I have many readers from all over the world who come from different cultures and religions. For anyone interested, here is an article from a Jewish site which has good advice for anyone. Read more:

Relinquishing the illusion of control and placing ourselves in God's hands speaks to our understanding that He alone runs the world. Implicit in that understanding is that He does so from a vantage point of knowing the broader picture and, hence, what ultimately is in our best interest. The human perspective, informed and knowledgeable as it might be, is at best, limited in its scope.

SEE ALSO: INFERTILITY IN THE BIBLE (getpregnantover40.com)

This posture of faith can provide a sense of inner peace which gives us the wherewithal to embrace and celebrate the existing opportunities for joy in our life. The absence of perspective robs us of the present, the here and now. We become so preoccupied with what we desire for our future and what has eluded us in the past that the opportunities for the "now" are missed and forfeited. It is truly sad that with so much to enjoy in our lives we become totally oblivious to the myriad of blessing that surround us, i.e. a loving spouse, parents, health, the beauty of the world around us, the gift of friendships, etc. Clearly, this is not intended to marginalize the admirable desire and effort to have children. God willing, you and your wife will yet be successful in your attempts, but life must be fully embraced in the moment, quite apart from what tomorrow will bring.
