DAILY INTERCOURSE FOR BETTER SPERM

Frequency of Intercourse for Better Sperm

There seems to be a debate out there over how often to have sex to get pregnant. Many sources say every other day or every 48 hours to give the man a chance to replenish his sperm supply. However, this interesting article from BBC news claims that men with damaged sperm may be better having intercourse every day. Read more:

One UK expert said daily sex might be better for men with damaged sperm.

This research shows that when you put people on a daily ejaculation regime, it reduces the figure for DNA damage

Professor Allan Pacey, British Fertility Society

The Australian scientists studied 42 men whose sperm had been found to be an abnormal shape when examined under the microscope.

They were told to ejaculate daily for seven days, and these samples were compared with those taken from them after three days' abstinence.

All but five of the men had less sperm damage in their daily samples compared with the post-abstention sample.

Fertility myth

Dr Allan Pacey, the secretary of the British Fertility Society, said that while not having sex allowed the numbers of sperm to build up, there was a "trade-off" between quality and quantity.

"This research shows that when you put people on a daily ejaculation regime, it reduces the figure for DNA damage.

SPERM HELPED WITH LYCOPENE, MALE FACTOR INFERTILITY

Having A Baby - Sperm Helped With Lycopene

I've heard about the many benefits of eating colorful red tomatoes because of an antioxidant called lycopene.
It turns out, this same nutrient can improve sperm quality. Read more:
From the article:

Researchers at the University of Portsmouth have revealed that lycopene, which gives tomatoes their bright red colouring, can improve male fertility and turn sperm into super-sperm.

The researchers made six healthy male volunteers consume a can of Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup every day for two weeks.

and
INCREASING SPERM COUNT IN MEN (getpregnantover40.com)
______________

Results showed that a fortnight of soup-slurping had some effect on semen.

Seminal levels of lycopene, the component of tomatoes which makes them red, increased by between seven and 12 per cent.

Lycopene has antioxidant properties which can help protect DNA, mopping up harmful chemicals in the body called free radicals which can play a part in infertility.

The result, the company suggested, was the creation of “super sperm” with the potential to boost fertility.

INFERTILTY: HOW PRAYER AND YOUR FAITH MAY HELP

Have You Asked God Yet To Bless You With A Baby?

Guest Post By Veronica Anusionwu
Many women facing infertility and miscarriage have asked everyone to help them have a baby except God.
They have asked their husbands, their doctors, friends, "Please Help me to have a baby", But I want to ask you a question, have you asked God to give you a child?
I want to use this bible story of female infertility to encourage you.
This is about a lady named Rachel. The bible says "When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister, because her sister had children.
So she said to Jacob, "Give me children, or I'll die! Jacob became angry with her and said, "Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?" Genesis 30:1-2.
When she got tired of infertility she cried out for help. But she only reached out for the wrong person.
Her husband became angry with her and said, "Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?
__________
SEE ALSO: INFERTILITY IN THE BIBLE (getpregnantover40.com)
_________

I have since discovered from my own life experience that a man is only a tool in the hand of God.
Many times our hearts can be set in the wrong direction, and this affects our outcome in life. Today, I want to encourage you to come to God and ask him for a baby.
You may be facing miscarriage, female infertility, hormonal imbalances, polycystic ovarian problems, or even secondary infertility. You can pray in faith and ask God to heal you.
This is what the bible offers you, Jesus says,
1. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Luke 11:9 2.
And whatsoever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:13 3.
These are just a few of God's promise that if you ask him, he will do it for you. He has promised you and God does not lie. I have since learnt that there are times our inability to ask God limits what God can do for us.
You may say, what of all those teenagers that get pregnant everyday? Do they really ask God? Well, we cannot judge our circumstance by another persons standard. But we can deal with God on an individual level, which is what pleases him the most. Now back to the story of Rachel in the bible. After her husband pointed her to God as her source, she turned her face towards God, knowing only he could give her a baby.
she changed her focus and continued to pray to God. The bible tells us this, "Then God remembered Rachel, he listened to her and opened her womb".
She became pregnant and gave birth to a son and said, "God has taken away my disgrace". She named him Joseph, and said, May the Lord add to me another son.
God removed the disgrace of infertility from her life. He can do the same for you. He loves you so much.
Please believe me when I tell you this, God truly loves you. You may say, Veronica, you don't even know me, I am so bad. Well, he still loves you.
Let nothing stop you anymore from coming to God. He is waiting to hear your voice. Talk to him today. God bless you!

YEAST INFECTIONS, FERTILITY AND GETTING PREGNANT

Trying To Conceive - Yeast Infections

I've been fortunate that my body doesn't seem to be a breeding ground for yeast infections.
However, I've known many women who have been plagued by them their entire life.  Yeast infections can also be quite common in pregnancy. Here is an article that addresses yeast infections and fertility:

"No, having a yeast infection will not directly affect your chances of getting pregnant. But the itchiness and irritation a yeast infection causes probably won't put you in the mood for intercourse.
_____________
SEE ALSO:  PROBIOTICS FOR UROGENITAL HEALTH AND FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)
_____________

Yeast infections are caused by a common fungus called Candida. Normally, the acid balance of the vagina keeps this fungus from multiplying. But a change in the acidity of the vagina — often due to illness, menstruation, pregnancy, some antibiotics, or birth control pills — can encourage yeast growth. Moist, tight clothing such as a wet bathing suit can also provide a prime breeding ground for yeast.

The main symptoms of a yeast infection are itchiness and a white, cheesy discharge. You may also have burning, irritation, and a rash on the outer lips of the vagina."

INFERTILE MEN HIGHER RISK OF TESTICULAR CANCER

Infertility and Underlying Testicular Cancer

Many times, infertility in both men and women can by a symptom of an underlying problem. The following article talks about how men who are experiencing infertility may be 20 times more likely to have testicular cancer. Read more:

Standard Screening for Infertile Men
"Screening for testicular cancer could now become a standard part of all male infertility treatment," researcher Marc Goldstein, MD, FACS, says in a news release.

"Examination of all infertile men by a urologist may be justified," Goldstein says.

Goldstein is surgeon-in-chief of male reproductive medicine and surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He's also a professor of reproductive medicine and urology at Cornell University's Weill Medical College.

Male Infertility, Testicular Cancer Study
Goldstein and colleagues reviewed the medical records of more than 3,800 infertile men seen over a decade by a New York urologist.

____________
SEE ALSO: MALE FACTOR INFERTILITY AND HOW TO ENHANCE MEN'S FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)
____________

All of the men had low sperm counts and/or other problems with their sperm, such as poor motility (motion) or morphology (shape).

A total of 10 men had testicular cancer. That's about 20 times higher than what would be expected in the general public, the researchers note.

Two of the men had a history of undescended testicle(s), a testicular cancer risk factor. Taking that into account didn't change the results much.

The researchers acknowledge that they studied a "highly selected group of men." Still, they don't note any reasons for infertile men to avoid testicular cancer screening.

PREGNANT NATURALLY AFTER IVF OR FAILED FERTILITY TREATMENTS

Get Pregnant Naturally Even After IVF

I found this very interesting article (which I also have posted on my website) about how the number of couples conceiving naturally after IVF is on the rise.
For More articles on natural conception after IVF see:  www.getpregnantover40.com
When I ran an infertility support group, there were actually quite a few women who had previously tried fertility treatments, then took a break and got pregnant spontaneously (including me).    Some even got pregnant more than one time.  It just confirms what I've been preaching all along. Many couples are capable of conceiving naturally given time and the right conditions. Read more here:

IT'S a mystifying phenomenon - IVF mothers conceiving spontaneously months after childbirth - and experts say it may be on the rise.

Women who have resorted to IVF after years of failure are regularly falling pregnant naturally soon after baby No. 1.

According to some doctors, the number of IVF parents conceiving naturally second time around may be growing.

"Twenty-five per cent of women who've been through IVF will conceive within the next two years," said IVF Australia director Prof Michael Chapman.

"It's probably increasing, and that's because IVF is being used more and more to treat unexplained infertility."

The IVF couples conceiving naturally second time around are not completely infertile, but rather have reduced fertility.

So they may have fallen pregnant naturally the first time if they had kept trying.

ACUPRESSURE, REFLEXOLOGY, HEALING TOUCH TO GET PREGNANT

Healing Touch And Fertility

Here is an article from a reliable source on how healing touch can help women conceive or be used in conjunction with other therapies. Read more:

Fertility and conception have been a concern through the ages. This case report documents the use of healing touch (HT), a noninvasive energy-field therapy, with the intent to facilitate conception and a healthy pregnancy. After 18 months of being unsuccessful in conceiving, a 40-year-old female sought HT to enhance the possibility of conceiving naturally. She had normal menstrual cycles, and both she and her husband had normal fertility tests. The client conceived after several months of HT therapy, which also included stimulating reflexology points on the ankle designed to affect the uterus and ovaries and encouraging positive affirmations.

HT therapy continued throughout a trouble-free pregnancy and during birth. The client gave birth to a healthy baby boy without the use of pain-relieving medications. Perinatal educators and other health-care practitioners who work with women having difficulty conceiving or experiencing difficult pregnancies may wish to consider recommending the use of HT and/or other complementary therapies with the goal of fostering more positive reproductive outcomes.

GETTING PREGNANT: HOW VISUALIZATION AND MEDITATION CAN HELP

Pregnancy Over 40 Is Partly In Your Mind

I grew up with parents who were totally mismatched, and as a result, I didn’t even want children until I was in my late 30’s.  I had such negative impressions of marriage and family that it’s no wonder my body was sabotaging my efforts to get pregnant and stay pregnant. It wasn't until I was older that I had the maturity and insight to realize that having a child could be a loving, joyful, and rewarding experience. I was expecting my body to all of a sudden be ready to accept a baby when I had spent my entire life up to that point telling it the opposite. I had to change my "pregnancy mindset". This means that I had to immerse my myself in "everything pregnant" to the point that I created a new reality.

When I ran a women’s infertility support group, I was always amazed at the number of women who said “I always knew I was going to have a hard time getting pregnant!” Seems to be a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy, doesn’t it? I truly believe that your thoughts are "things". You need to be careful what you think and what you say. Your subconscious mind works in mysterious ways.

It's hard to change a lifetime of thinking. I discuss my visualization techniques I used to change my mindset in my cd: Meditation and Visualization (getpregnantover40.com) At first it felt very awkward to be trying to get pregnant. But after a while it felt very natural to want a baby. If you really want something, you need to see yourself as already having it or behave as if you already have it. Prepare your body but first, prepare your mind.

Here is a site that discusses how visualization works:

The more you imagine the good stuff – the more of it you get. Think of it as a quid pro quo from the universe. If you take the time to really become clear on what you want, and vividly imagine and visualise yourself achieving your dreams, the universe will... well, the universe will have your back. Again, it’s a bit of a leap of faith – but only until you try it and see the results for yourself.

FLAME RETARDANTS HURT FERTILITY

Flame Retardants PBDE and Female Fertility: May Harm Pregnancy Rates

The good news is that many of the harmful flame retardants are being phased out, but the bad news is that we are still exposed to many of the harmful ones.  PBDE is an abbreviation for a common flame retardant which may still be found in some carpet, furniture and electronics.
This article explains more:

Her study measured PBDE levels in the blood of a group of women in California.

"Women with higher exposure to PBDEs took significantly longer to become pregnant," Harley said.

For every tenfold increase in blood PBDE levels, women had 30-50 percent lower odds of becoming pregnant each month. The range of measured levels covered one-thousand fold.

_________
SEE ALSO: ENVIRONMENTAL THREATS TO FERTILITY AND HOW TO DETOXIFY YOUR ENVIRONMENT (getpregnantover40.com)
_________

"In order to be eligible to be in our study, you had to become pregnant," Harley noted. "If we included infertile women, we could find an even stronger correlation."

Meanwhile, Julie Herbstman of Columbia University in New York and colleagues measured PBDE levels in the umbilical cord blood of 210 newborns to determine their prenatal exposure to PBDEs. She followed up with tests of physical, verbal and mental development from birth through age six.

"The kids with the highest prenatal exposures scored on average lower on the tests than the kids with lower exposures," she said.

Herbstman says the observed effects are similar to those from low-level lead exposure.

AROMATHERAPY AND HERBS FOR INFERTILITY

Chinese Herbs and Aromatherapy for Infertility

By Farah Khan

There are many different causes of infertility in both men and in women. The primary source of infertility in men is a low sperm count. This can be due to constitutional and environmental factors. Chinese medicine can be used to increase circulation and body temperature, which may help improve sperm count. The same herbs that are used for this purpose may also improve a man's sex drive and sexual performance. There are a number of factors involved in female infertility as well. A frequent cause of infertility is a blockage of the fallopian tube that prevents the sperm and the egg from meeting. Polycystic ovarian disease may also interfere with timely release of the eggs. Other gynecological health issues can also cause infertility such as endometriosis, salpingitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and chlamydia. At other times, there can appear to be no structural or physical condition that is causing the infertility. While Chinese medicine and aromatherapy cannot determine the physical factors causing infertility (diagnostic testing is required for that), they can often address some of the sources of infertility once the cause is discovered.

SEE ALSO: HERBS FOR FERTILITY AND PREGNANCY (getpregnantover40.com)

The Chinese herbs, Leonurus (Yi Mu Cao) and Siegesbeckia (Xi Xian Cao), when used together, have been shown to open up blocked fallopian tubes in clinical research studies done in China. The majority of women responded to treatment within 10 days. The blockages in these cases were due to thickening of the lining of the tubes, excessive mucous secretion, partial blockage with scar tissue, inflammation, or infection. One remedy that may work well to treat this condition in combination with Chinese herbs is the enzyme, serrapeptase. Serrapeptase breaks down scar tissue and cystic tissue in the body while promoting circulation.
For women suffering from polycystic ovarian disease, a number of herbs and essential oils may be useful. Saw palmetto berries are known to block the production of the type of testosterone known to cause the disease. Chasteberries may help reduce the tendency towards formation of ovarian cysts and help balance out a woman's hormones. Cypress essential oil used externally may also reduce the formation of cysts. Generally, women with this condition often need to have Damp Heat cleared from the Lower Burner, in Chinese medicine terms. They often also suffer from Kidney Yin Deficiency, and from Qi and Blood Stasis in the Lower Burner.
For women whose mucous secretions kill their husband's sperm, their could be a condition of excess congestion and acidity in the body that can be balanced out through dietary and lifestyle changes along with the use of herbs and essential oils. Changing the body's chemistry through holistic means may increase the likelihood of conception.
There are also a number of essential oils that can help to balance out a woman's hormonal and reproductive system while promoting fertility. Geranium, clary-sage, and rose essential oil all nourish a woman's system and help to bring it back into homeostasis.
Many times, there is no diagnosable reason or cause for infertility. In these cases, Chinese medicine can be highly effective in bringing back a woman's mind, body, and spirit into harmonious balance, making her more receptive to conception.
Chinese herbs can also be used to maintain a healthy pregnancy once conception has occurred. Certain herbs such as xu duan(teasel root) and tu si zi(cuscuta), have traditionally been used to discourage miscarriages and promote a healthy pregnancy. A certain percentage of miscarriages are unpreventable (25%) because they are triggered by genetic abnormalities in the fetus, but in other cases, herbs may help increase the probability of carrying a pregnancy through a full nine month term.
As you can see, there are a wide variety of ways in which Chinese Medicine and aromatherapy can be used to improve a couple's likelihood of conceiving a child, while preparing the woman emotionally and physically for conception and pregnancy.

HERBS FOR PCOS

Herbal Remedies For PCOS - Know How to Balance Hormones

Guest Post By Kate Allen

Many are satisfied with the efficacy of herbal remedies. This is especially true for herbal remedies for PCOS. If you are one of those whose hormones are unnaturally imbalanced then read on to find the remedy that can help you.
What is PCOS?
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS is the condition where the hormones of a woman are not balanced. This is a very common syndrome that affects an average of 1 out 15 women.
PCOS can cause irregular menstruation cycles and other related problems and this syndrome can make a woman have difficulty getting pregnant. The hormonal imbalance in a woman's body can also cause superficial changes.
 _____________
SEE ALSO: TOP 5 HERBS FOR FERTILITY AND PREGNANCY (getpregnantover40.com)
_____________
Hormones are the term used for the bodily chemicals that triggers many processes in our body such as energy and growth production. If hormonal imbalance remains untreated, it may lead to more serious diseases such as diabetes or heart diseases.
What are the symptoms?
The most common symptoms of PCOS are weight gain or difficulty shedding your excess weight, acne, excessive facial and body hair, thinning hair, irregular menstrual cycles or no menstrual cycles at all, trouble conceiving and depression.
A large number of women with PCOS also develop small cysts in their ovaries but these cysts are generally harmless.
What are the causes?
The primary cause of PCOS has been attributed to genetics. If you have a family history of PCOS, there is a high chance of having PCOS.
To better check your condition, you can consult your doctor so that they can do a series of tests to check your hormonal balance.
The treatment of PCOS
Experts highly suggest that a woman with PCOS incorporate a healthy regimen in their lifestyle. That is to say these women should have a regular exercise, a healthy balanced diet free from food additives and they should maintain their weight.
There are some medicines that are used to treat this condition. Your doctor might even prescribe you with birth control pills to regulate your periods. However, if you are not comfortable using medicines, there is no harm in trying herbal remedies for PCOS.
Here are some of the widely used herbal remedies for PCOS:
Tulsi
This herb is commonly known as holy basil and is native to India. It has anti-androgenic properties that help our androgen-sensitive tissues. This can also help regulate the insulin level of a person to reduce and minimize the chance of obesity.
Chaste Berry
This herb is very helpful in treating hormonal imbalances in women. It is helpful in stabilizing pituitary gland functions. The pituitary gland is responsible in controlling the release of luteinizing hormones. However, this herb is not recommended for those taking birth control pills or those undergoing infertility treatments as this can affect the medication.
Dandelion
The root of dandelion is very helpful in promoting the health of our liver. This herb can be helpful because it promotes the core function of our liver and in this way prevents hormonal imbalances from happening. With the aid of Dandelion root, our liver can function properly.
Milk Thistle
Milk thistle, just like dandelion is also beneficial for the liver. This herb protects that liver from possible cell damage and in so doing; it protects the over all functioning of the body.
In addition to this, you can try an herbal remedy that is solely dedicated in balancing the hormones of your body. A product called Dong Quai can do this job.
Dong Quai rectifies the imbalanced hormones in your body and helps normalize the progesterone and estrogen levels of your body. If you want to chase away the blues and the erratic changes in your mood during menstruation, Dong Quai can help you with that too.
This is perfectly safe to use since the ingredients are 100 % herbal and natural and manufactured in a safe and reliable facility under the careful supervision of competent experts.
If you do not want PCOS to be a part of your life, you can try Dong Quai together with other herbal remedies for PCOS.

ARE YOU MORE FERTILE AFTER MISCARRIAGE?

Increased Fertility After Miscarriage, Myth Or Reality?

I have heard many times that it may be easier to get pregnant after a miscarriage (or even after a successful pregnancy).  I never knew if this was a myth or if there was some basis in reality.  It makes sense that if your body was just pregnant, there may be hormones still circulating in your body that might make another pregnancy more likely.  In any event, this article may help to clear up the confusion:

DO YOU REALLY NEED IVF OVER 40?

IVF OVER THE AGE OF 40 MAY NOT BE NECESSARY

If you are not familiar with my story, I went through two cycles of IVF, both of which failed miserably.  One cycle, I got pregnant with twins but miscarried both.  One was an ectopic pregnancy which had to be removed along with my fallopian tube surgically and the other died in my uterus.  The second IVF attempt ended in what they thought was another ectopic pregnancy in my remaining tube, but we caught it early enough to take a drug called "Methotrexate" which stops it from growing and helps it expel naturally.  Thank heavens for that because I was able to keep my one good fallopian tube.  The happy ending was that I discontinued fertility treatments and wound up getting pregnant naturally and had a normal pregnancy and normal delivery and in my totally unbiased opinion, a daughter who is perfect.  Read more about whether or not you need IVF over the age of 40 and the pros and cons:

CATHOLIC VIEW OF INFERTILITY

Having A Baby and Trying To Conceive From The Catholic Standpoint

When I ran an infertility support group, I recall some group members questioning how fertility treatments fit in with their religious beliefs.
Here is an article from the Catholic perspective about how fertility treatments are viewed by the church:

For people of faith and goodwill, Christian or not, there are also moral qualms and questions. Is it right to manipulate Mother Nature? Are we playing God? Just because advanced medical technology can do something, does that automatically translate into obligation? Surely there are limits that define the humane and ethical use of medical science and technology.
_____________
SEE ALSO: INFERTILITY IN THE BIBLE (getpregnantover40.com)
_____________
For Catholics there are also more specific, Church-related questions. Are these procedures morally acceptable according to Church teaching? Have the pope and bishops or some council or official Church body spoken on these matters? Some Catholics, familiar with the Church’s strong defense of procreation as one of the core meanings of marital lovemaking, tend to assume that the Church must be in favor of any and all medical aids to achieve conception and the birth of a child. Not so. The Catholic viewpoint is at the same time more compassionate and more complex than a simple yea or nay.

STRESS, PROGESTERONE AND MISCARRIAGE CONNECTION

Stress, infertility and miscarriage

Most of us have already heard that stress can be a factor in infertility.  As a matter of fact, we hear it so much that it becomes something we all ignore. I don't need any convincing that stress and miscarriage may be and probably are related. Another factor, especially for women under stress is low progesterone levels. Although treatment with progesterone to prevent miscarriage is controversial, it may be most effective when given to women under stress. This article explains more:
_________
SEE ALSO: STRESS, THE MOST OVERLOOKED FACTOR IN OUR CONTROL FOR FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)
_________

Stress really can cause miscarriages, a series of studies suggests. The good news is that extra doses of progesterone might safeguard the pregnancies of women at risk.

While the cause of most miscarriages is never established, doctors usually attribute them either to abnormalities in the fetus or to illness or health problems in the mother. Most obstetricians dismiss the idea that healthy women can lose healthy babies solely because of stress.

But a series of studies by a team in Germany might change their minds. "We can clearly say that stress has a major impact on pregnancy maintenance," says team leader Petra Arck of Charité, an institute of the University of Berlin.

FENG SHUI TO GET PREGNANT: BABY CHI

Feng Shui for fertility

I've written before on Feng Shui for fertility. Although I did not try the design features of feng shui, it supposedly can help in many aspects of your life. If you're so inclined, making these changes in your home just might help!  Even small changes like removing blockages, facing the direction of your sleeping position and using symbols may help. Read more:

Unlike western thought, feng shui for parents places the most emphasis on the father and not the mother. The father must have what is called descendants luck. This is where personal feng shui can be called upon to help improve this type of luck.

FENG SHUI FOR FERTILITY (getpregnantover40.com)

Renowned feng shui writer, Lillian Too, credits every book to her daughter Jennifer, whom she says was conceived after a feng shui master visited her home and saw that a tree was blocking her front door. The master told her that once the tree was removed she became pregnant.

True to his prediction and after nine infertile years of marriage Lillian's daughter was born. This was also what launched her full study and practice of feng shui.

When it comes to enhancing fertility with feng shui, though, it would be wise to address both parents as well as the home. This way, a complete approach will be taken and nothing is overlooked. Fertility feng shui cant create miracles but it can create a positive environment in which miracles can occur

WHAT ARE FERTILITY BEADS? CAN THEY HELP YOU GET PREGNANT?

Fertility Beads

There's an interesting system of keeping track of your fertile days which almost seems too simple. This system was developed as a method of contraception, however it can be used for women who want to get pregnant as well. Fertility beads are inexpensive, and basically give you a visual guide day by day of the days you are most likely to conceive. It may be worth a try. Read more:

For four years, Allen J. Wilcox, an epidemiologist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Durham, N.C., had 221 women who hoped to become pregnant record the days of their menstrual periods and the days they had intercourse. The women also gave a daily urine sample, and Wilcox ultimately gathered more than 30,000 little jars. By testing the urine for hormones released during ovulation, Wilcox was able to determine the ovulation date for each woman each month.

Wilcox's analysis revealed the exact length of the fertile period: six days each month, including five days prior to ovulation and the day of ovulation. It turns out that sperm are hardy and can survive for up to five days in a woman's reproductive tract, but eggs are delicate and die quickly if no sperm are in the neighborhood.

And when in their cycles did the women ovulate? He found that while women with irregular cycles could be ovulating at almost any time, women with regular cycles of about 28 days followed a certain pattern: If you view Day 1 as the first day of a woman's menstrual period, the majority of women have their six-day fertile period somewhere between days 7 to 17. "Outside those days, " said Wilcox, "if you want to play the odds [and have unprotected sex] there's a low chance of getting pregnant, about 2 percent."

SPERM IMPROVED WITH DAILY INTERCOURSE

Daily intercourse goo for sperm count

There are a number of things that men can do to enhance their fertility.  Some involve diet, supplements and avoiding extreme heat (read more about increasing sperm count here - getpregnantover40.com).
Some couples think that abstaining will help build up sperm reserves, however, according to this article, it may be better to clear out the "sperm reservoir" for better sperm health.

From the article:

Longer periods of abstinence, however, achieve little because while the quantity of sperm might increase, its quality declines. As sperm is produced, it is stored in the epididymis at the top of the testicle, but the longer it sits there the more damage it accumulates from exposure to free radicals.

Regular ejaculation empties this sperm reservoir, making sure that newly produced sperm of higher genetic quality can get out.

Allan Pacey, a senior lecturer in andrology at the University of Sheffield, said that clearing the reservoir was more important when sperm had high levels of genetic damage. “If you get above 30 to 40 per cent damaged DNA, a man is highly likely to be infertile,” he said. “When you put people on a daily ejaculation regime, it reduces that figure for DNA damage. If you can go from 30 per cent down to 20 per cent that is quite a big shift, that should have implications for fertility.

“There is a trade-off between genetic damage and quantity, so when a couple are first trying to get pregnant a wait of two to three days is probably advisable. But if you are a guy who has high DNA damage and a decent sperm count, it is probably in your interest to ejaculate every day.

CAN ACUPUNCTURE HELP YOU GET PREGNANT FOR FERTILITY?

Acupuncture (TCM) For Fertility

When I was trying to conceive, I did a few trial treatments of acupuncture.  I decided to move on to childfree right after that, so I discontinued my treatments.  Wouldn't you know it, I got pregnant naturally right after that!  Maybe those three weeks of treatments did the trick!  I guess I'll never know, but there does seem to be evidence that acupuncture can be used to enhance fertility.

GETTING PREGNANT WITH THE LAW OF ATTRACTION

The Law of Attraction and Quantum Physics

By Kate Corbin
"If thoughts can do that to water, imagine what our thoughts can do to us." - from the movie, What the Bleep Do We Know!?

The Law of Attraction teaches that we attract into our lives whatever we focus on. Quantum Physics teaches that nothing is fixed, that there are no limitations, that everything is vibrating Energy. By understanding that everything is Energy in a state of potential and by applying the Law of Attraction to bring into our lives what we focus on, it is never necessary to feel stuck with an undesirable life.

We are Creators of the Universe. The classical physics of Newton takes a material perspective in which the Universe is composed of discrete building blocks, solid and unchangeable. Quantum physics takes a spiritual perspective in which there are no separate parts, in which everything is fluid and always changing.
The physical world is a sea of Energy constantly flashing into and out of existence. It is through our thoughts that we transform this ever-changing Energy into observable reality. Therefore, we can create our reality with our thoughts. With quantum physics, science is leaving behind the notion that human beings are powerless victims and moving toward an understanding that we are fully empowered creators of our lives and of our world.
With Newton, we were insignificant cogs in the Universal Machinery. With quantum physics, we are Creators of the Universe.

Everything is Energy. Einstein's 1905 formula E = mc2 explains the relationship between Energy and matter, i.e., that Energy and matter are interchangeable - that, in reality, everything is Energy - dancing, fluid, ever-changing Energy.
This Energy is influenced by our thoughts. It is shapeable, formable, and moldable. As Creators, we shape, form and mold the Energy of the Universe through our thoughts. We transform the Energy of our thoughts into the Energy of our reality.
The Physics of Possibility. The popular movie, What the Bleep Do We Know!?, clarifies that quantum physics is the physics of possibility. We have been conditioned to believe that the external world is more real than the internal world. Quantum physics says just the opposite. It says that what's happening on the inside determines what's happening on the outside. It says that our world is shaped by our thoughts.
Since nothing is fixed and everything is in a state of potential, everything is possible. As we understand that everything is possible, and as we focus our thoughts on what we want to attract, we can literally call into existence whatever we desire.
My ten-year old neighbor loves the expression - "It could happen!" He probably doesn't know much about the physics of possibility, but he practices it with his great attitude. He reminds me to entertain possibility. He reminds me that nothing is impossible.
Dreams into Reality. The Universe exists as infinite potential in infinite abundance. As we focus our thoughts, we have the power to bring our desires into existence, our dreams into reality. As we focus our thoughts, we have the power to be and do and have whatever we desire.

DIET CRITICAL PRIOR TO CONCEPTION AND IN EARLY FETAL GROWTH

Before You Get Pregnant Over 40, Watch What You Eat

I've read from numerous resources that your egg quality is determined up to 3 months prior to conception. Of course, your diet can help you conceive, but it's also becoming clear that your diet immediately prior to conception could affect the health of your baby.
Here is an article that discusses some of the affects a poor diet can have on your unborn child:

From the article:

A third study by Tom Fleming of the University of Southampton in England looked at the effects of a low-protein diet just prior to conception and during the early days of fetal development in mice.

Throughout the rest of their pregnancy, the animals were fed a normal diet.

The researchers found that this caused cardiovascular problems, particularly hypertension and arterial disease, as well as other metabolic disorders in the offspring.

Again, there was evidence of stronger effects in male mice.

Fleming said what's happening during this short window of time is that the tiny ball of cells that is the fetus is "sensing" its maternal nutritional environment.

If nutrients are scarce, the embryo will make decisions about how best to get nutrients from its mother, potentially overcompensating.

In a fourth study, researchers have been attempting to get even closer to a human model by looking at primates. Dr. Kjersti Aagaard-Tillery of Baylor College in Houston, Texas, and colleagues studied macaques given a 35 percent high-fat diet.

Some of the animals became obese as a result of the diet, while others did not. But of those who became pregnant, all gave birth to offspring that developed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and high levels of fats known as triglycerides in the blood.

STORIES OF PREGNANCY AFTER INFERTILITY

 Pregnancy Success Stories

When I was trying to conceive and had already undergone two failed IVF cycles along with an ectopic pregnancy, the loss of a fallopian tube and multiple failed inseminations, I basically threw up my hands and realized "this isn't working".  I couldn't handle looking at another fertility doctor or fertility clinic nurse with their condescending "canned" lectures about pregnancy statistics at my age. And, of course some loose cannon would always say "have you considered adoption?" GRRRR
I was constantly looking for success stories of women who got pregnant naturally after infertility or failed fertility treatments.  If you are in the same boat, this page on my website might help:

INFERTILITY: MEN AND FERTILITY

When Infertility Is The Man's Problem

I think many people automatically assume that infertility is the woman's problem. It just seems like our physiology is more complicated, after all, we can grow a baby in our uterus, that's no small feat. But the fact of the matter is, men can experience fertility problems as often as women.  We were fortunate that my husband's sperm count was excellent so we could focus our attention on enhancing my egg quality and fertility.  But, men may take their inability to father a child personally.  In many cultures, men define their worth based on how many children they have.  Here's an article from the man's point of view:

From the article:

But in the event her biological makeup became an issue, I resolved not to cast blame and to be supportive. That decision made me feel good. It's nice to know you can be a rock for your loved one to lean on.

What I didn't expect to learn — and what no guy wants to hear — is that, Houston, there's a problem, but it's not with your wife.
