Why Can't I Have A Baby?

You Can Attract A Baby Into Your Life

I used to ask myself that question all the time. If you were a new soul ready to make your journey into the world (or in this case – into the womb), wouldn’t you prefer to come into an environment that was calm, peaceful and receptive?
My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
When you’re struggling with infertility, you’re usually in a place of anger, disappointment, jealousy, and frustration. Is this the environment you would choose?

Natural Hormone Production Rather Than Supplementation

Encourage Your Body To Produce Hormones Naturally

As we age, it's inevitable that our hormone levels will decline. This article makes the point that if we supplement our bodies with hormones, then our system becomes lazy and will stop or reduce hormone production even more.
The author of this article recommends supplementing with the substances that will encourage hormone production rather than with the hormones themselves. Read more:

Nourish the Essences from which the Hormones are Made

The deep essences of the body provide the raw material from which hormones are produced. These essences are diminished as we age and this effects hormonal production. We can, however, directly nourish these essences with herbal medicines and plant materials whose active ingredients are identical to the essences in the human body. The practice of nourishing the deeper essences significantly promotes health, well being and balanced hormonal production.

The classic formula Rehmannia 6 nourishes bodily essences effectively. Herbs like shou wu, eclipta, cuscuta, soloman's seal, and shatavari can all be used to good effect. Traditional Botanical Medicine's Great Essence formula contains many of these wonderful essence tonics.

Some herbs are actual hormonal precursors. They directly stimulate specific hormones. Herbs like shilijit, tribulus, mucuna, and epimedium will boost testosterone levels in the body and help to preserve your heart, muscles and libido.

By implementing these right life practices in your life, the vast majority of people who do not want to resort to some form of hormone replacement will be able to magnify health and well being for many years into the future..

Infertility In The bible

Get Pregnant Naturally With The Help Of Prayer and The Bible

From time to time, I will do posts on different religious beliefs as they relate to fertility and infertility.  Although I am not a biblical scholar by any means, I frequently will have guest posts on the subject.  Here is a three part series on how the bible can help on your journey to have a baby:

Are You Trying to Get Pregnant? Here are Amazing Biblical Keys to Help You

Since we know that Hannah is a faithful worshiper of Almighty God, it is only reasonable to believe she is also a woman of prayer. Because of her great desire to have a son, we know she is constantly praying to conceive. No doubt she rises early every morning with this special prayer request, "Oh, God, give me a Son!"...

See My Interview For National Infertility Week - Huffington Post Live

Fertility-Infertility Over 40

This week is "National Infertility Week". I was asked by Huffington Post Live to participate in an interview about infertility, fertility treatments, insurance coverage and so on.
My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
Although I didn't agree with some of the statistics quoted about women over 40 getting pregnant naturally (since unexpected pregnancies in women over 40 is second only to teenagers), I was certainly happy to be part of their panel. See the video here:

Anovulation and Fertility

Trying To Get Pregnant With Irregular Cycles

Anovulation literally means "without ovulation".
 My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
Some women have erratic periods or go through phases where they skip periods. It's also possible to have a period without ovulating. I recall back when I was in college, I skipped my periods for 5 months in a row. But I think back and I was under a lot of stress from a very full academic schedule and I was exercising like crazy. I kept very long hours and I remember cramming all night with a pot of coffee. The last thing I wanted at the time was to get pregnant, but if you are trying to conceive, you need to try to change your lifestyle so your body resumes it's natural rhythm. There are also medical treatments for anovulation such as short term hormone supplementation.

Lack of ovulation is usually related to an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone.  Ovulation occurs as you body first ripens an egg and then is triggered to release it.
The hypothalmus produces a hormone called GRnH which tells the pituitary gland to produce FSH (follicle stimulating hormone).  FSH assists the ovary in producing a follicle.  The follicle produces estrogen which reaches the highest level right before ovulation.  At this time the estrogen stimulates the release of LH (luteinizing hormone) from the pituitary gland.  LH stimulates the release of the egg from the follicle which hopefully is swept into the fallopian tube.

As you can see, there is an orchestration of events involved with ovulation.  One of the best ways to restore your normal balance is to take care of your overall health.  A number of controllable factors can be changed which could restore ovulation.  These include:
  • Reducing stress (yes, this is common sense, but many people don't do it!)
  • Exercising moderately rather than too little or too much
Other factors that can cause anovulation include:
  • Frequent travel
  • Breastfeeding
  • Low body weight
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Some endocrine disorders
Of  course you should talk with your doctor to find out if there is an underlying medical cause of your ovulatory disorder.

Make Sure You're Getting Enough Iron If You're TTC

Fertility, Iron and Ovulation May Be Linked

I have mentioned the nurses study a number of times in my blog postings.
 My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
This is the study that found that full fat dairy may be good for fertility.  This study also found that women with lower iron intake may be at risk for ovulatory disorders.

Here is an interesting article that links iron deficiency with infertility. Read more:

“Our results suggest that women who are planning to become pregnant may improve their fertility by consuming non-heme iron which is found in iron supplements, multivitamins, legumes and spinach,” said Dr. Jorge E. Chavrarro, from the department of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Medicine.

For the study, Chavarro and colleagues used data from a large study of 18,000 registered nurses between the ages of 24 and 42. Over the course of 8 years, the researchers noted that there were over 3,500 cases of infertility among the women involved. Of those who went for further testing to find the source of their infertility, 438 women found they were having difficulty becoming pregnant because of an ovulatory disorder, meaning their body had trouble producing viable eggs.

Looking at the iron intake of these women, the researchers found that those women who used iron supplements had about a 40 percent lower risk of having an ovulatory disorder. In fact, women who took supplements with high iron content—more than 41 milligrams a day—lowered their risk of an ovulatory problem by 70 percent.

TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine For Fertility

Getting Pregnant With TCM

Traditional Chinese (Taoism, Buddhism) and Ayurvedic (Hinduism) medicines are religious offshoots that treat the whole person: body, mind and spirit via diet, exercise, meditation, kindness, etc.
For more articles and natural ways to conceive, visit:  www.getpregnantover40.com
Both medicines define everything in terms of matter, energy and spirit.

If you're familiar with Chines and Ayurvedic medicine, you've probably heard about "cold" foods and "warm" foods.  If you are trying to conceive, you want to nourish your kidney "yang" with warm foods.  However, it really is all about balance.

This article explains more about warm and cold foods and the balance of energy:

Sweet Potatoes Yams For Fertility

The Difference Between Sweet Potatoes and Yams

You may have heard that sweet potatoes or “yams” are good for fertility.
My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
Well, it's very true, the are! First let's clear up the confusion between yams and sweet potatoes. True yams (called Dioscorea) are not the ones you usually find in American grocery stores. They can be found in Africa and Asia and perhaps in some specialized grocery stores here. I've looked for them in my local health food store and they didn't know what I was talking about.

Trying To Conceive Over 40, Vision Boards May Help

Creating A Vision Board Can Help You Conceive By Visualizing Your Baby

I frequently talk about visualization alone or along with meditation.  One reason I created my CD (www.getpregnantover40.com) was because I feel that visualization was a key piece in having a successful natural pregnancy at the age of 44.

When you want to attract something into your life, you need to remember that everything starts with a thought.  If you're in the throes of infertility, it may be difficult to visualize a happy outcome when you're stuck in the monotony of predicting ovulation, timing intercourse and trying to control microscopic events.

Try another technique which is much more fun and a whole lot easier.  Try visualizing your future child with the help of vision boards.

Pregnancy Over 40 - Getting Pregnant Over 40 Is Possible

I hear from women every day who get pregnant over the age of 40.

My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
Some get pregnant by surprise, some have tried for a while, and some just decide they want a child, go off birth control and get pregnant naturally right away. Here is an article about one of those women and how she felt the statistics were a bit exaggerated. Read more encouraging stories on my website (www.getpregnantover40.com) scroll down to the articles

From The Telegraph (UK) Is the fertility time bomb really ticking?

We started trying but then stopped because we were getting married, and I didn't want to be pregnant on my wedding day. Then on the honeymoon I got pregnant straight away. I feel very lucky."

Scurrah, from Poole, Dorset, isn't just lucky to have a healthy son. At 41, she had postponed trying to conceive until an age when her chances were worryingly slim.

"Everywhere I looked there were headlines saying it wasn't going to happen, but it did. I had a straightforward pregnancy, even though I had a label in hospital saying 'Low risk (but 40)', which made me chuckle."
