Try An Easier Way To Get Pregnant

Pregnancy Over 40, Get Pregnant Naturally

Even the fertility experts have to admit that sometimes the best treatment is no treatment.
My site:
Here's an article about how half of couples seeking fertility treatment at one treatment center had nothing wrong with them (they just didn't have the timing right). This is probably why there are so many women who undergo fertility treatments, have a baby, then get pregnant with their second one naturally. Read more:

Infertility is big business in Britain, but Zita West, one of Britain’s best-known fertility experts, admits that 50 per cent of the couples she sees in her practice have nothing wrong with them apart from that they don’t understand ovulation and they don’t have enough sex. So, stop worrying, take a month off work, go on an amazing holiday with your girlfriend and forget about the whole thing.

See Also: Get Pregnant Naturally (

Three friends of mine who were in the same boat as you did just that and it certainly put the spark back into their relationships. One couple who had given up on IVF went scuba-diving. Another couple who had been trying for more than a year spent the money that they had put aside for IVF on a Caribbean holiday. And a third friend who had not used contraception since she got married two years ago travelled to New Zealand with her husband. I have no science to support it, but all three couples came back with an extra passenger on board.

TTC? Stop and smell the.....pheramones???

Pregnancy Over 40, The Role Of Smell

I've always said we tend to underestimate our sense of smell.
My site:
If you're trying to conceive, pheromones may play a part in your success. The following article discusses the significance of pheromones on female fertility:

" male scents play a role in maintaining the health of women, particularly the health of the female reproductive system. Researchers at the Monell Chemical Senses Center and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine have found that women who have sex with men at least once a week are more likely to have normal menstrual cycles, fewer infertility problems and a milder menopause than celibate women and women who have sex rarely or sporadically. So the researchers were hardly tentative about the meaning of it all.
"What we're saying here is that men are really important for women," said Winnifred Cutler, a biologist and specialist in behavioral endocrinology who conducted the study along with Organic Chemist George Preti. "If you look at all the data, the conclusion is compelling. A man or his essence seems essential for an optimally fertile system."

Pregnancy Over 40, Get Enough Sleep and Increase Progesterone With Magnesium

Most of us already know that lack of sleep and stress can harm fertility.
Magnesium can help with all of these things. Here is an article that explains how magnesium can get your body on the right track. Read more:

The Relaxation Mineral

Think of magnesium as the relaxation mineral. Anything that is tight, irritable, crampy, and stiff — whether it is a body part or an even a mood — is a sign of magnesium deficiency.

This critical mineral is actually responsible for over 300 enzyme reactions and is found in all of your tissues — but mainly in your bones, muscles, and brain. You must have it for your cells to make energy, for many different chemical pumps to work, to stabilize membranes, and to help muscles relax.

See Also: Natural Ways To Increase Progesterone (Magnesium In Leafy Green Vegetables)

That is why the list of conditions that are found related to magnesium deficiency is so long. In fact, there are over 3,500 medical references on magnesium deficiency!

Even so, this mineral is mostly ignored because it is not a drug, even though it is MORE powerful than drugs in many cases. That’s why we use it in the hospital for life-threatening and emergency situations like seizures and heart failure.

SACRAL CHAKRA AND FERTILITY: GETTING PREGNANT sacral chakra is associated with the color orange and it controls the
essential reproductive organs like the ovaries in women and the testicles in men.  It is important for anyone who is trying to conceive to try to open this chakra and deal with any past trauma whether physical or emotional especially surrounding the reproductive system, miscarriage or sexual issues.  The stone "Carnelian" resonates with the sacral chakra.

Oil For Fertility

Pregnancy Over 40, How Oil May Help

Here is an interesting treatment which seems very non-invasive (the article describes it like a pap smear) where women's uteruses are bathed in a special oil.
My site:
This treatment supposedly helps implantation. The study was done in Australia, but maybe this treatment will catch on. Read more:

A trial led by Auckland University expert Dr Neil Johnson found that nine out of 12 women who had their uterus bathed with lipiodol, or poppy seed oil, became pregnant. All the women had a history of infertility and endometriosis, a problem with the womb lining that affects up to a third of women struggling to conceive.

Johnson believes the oil helps embryos stick to the endometrium, the mucous membrane lining the uterus, boosting chances of it implanting. "It's a good value, low-cost alternative to other therapies that are being offered, like IVF," said the associate professor in obstetrics and gynaecology. "It has a drastically successful effect but there's an amazing hesitancy of the medical profession to take it on."

Trying To Conceive Over 40 and Your Faith

TTC, Pregnancy Over 40, Christianity and Faith

As I've mentioned in the past, I could never be considered a religious scholar and I'm not an expert on bible literature.  But here is a Christian women's site that did a posting about a woman who had trouble getting pregnant and how she leaned on her faith (and eventually became pregnant). Read more:

I distinctly remember being surrounded by nature's beauty while on vacation in Colorado, surrounded by young families, eating good food and breathing in fresh air...and looking at yet another negative pregnancy test.
See Also, Infertility In The Bible (
And in the midst of this idyllic scene, I lost it. Like, alone-in-the-dark, rocking-back-and-forth, lost it. I cried, shouted, and sang mournfully to the Lord. I felt downright impolite because I finally admitted to Him that I was disappointed with His seeming inaction.

I think that the day I got real with God – through tears, snot, and fetal-position wailing about all my worry, pain, doubt, anger, helplessness and inadequacy – was the day I felt His presence, and with that, a reassurance that He would take me through the unknown.

Enhancing Fertility With Meditation

Pregnancy Over 40, Meditation and Visualization Can Help

One piece of my 'Pregnancy Protocol' which I write about in my book is Meditation. I know many people would like to meditate, but they're not quite sure how to do it. When I was trying to conceive, I would try to devote at least 15 minutes a day to meditation.  My CD On Meditation and Visualization ( explains the process I went through when trying to conceive my daughter.
Meditation is a critical piece of changing/creating your reality. It can also be a big factor in how you manage your stress. Try it! It's free, it's relaxing, and it can even be fun. Don't say you don't have time...everyone has at least 15 minutes.
So how do you meditate? Here is a good resource on meditation:

1. In your minds eye, see aberrant or inflamed cells changing into healthy cells. If there is a damaged or corrupted area within the cells, visualize them changing and becoming free from injury. See your whole body becoming pure. Visualize yourself as perfectly healthy.
2. There are cells within your body that act as protectors and actually attack and kill damaging invader cells. See these warrior cells destroy those cells that could cause you injury. See your whole body becoming pure. Visualize yourself as perfectly healthy.
3. There are cells within your body that eat threatening cells. See them devour the harm causing structures. See your whole body becoming pure. Visualize yourself as perfectly healthy.
4. Visualize groups of healthy cells combining to replace any damaged areas of your body. For instance, if you have suffered a broken bone, see the cells come together in healing, bonding together to reform a complete structure. Visualize the bone as perfectly healthy.
5. Visualize healing energy filling you. The energy can be felt to originate from a higher power that gifts you with healing. See this holy energy filling and changing your cellular structure to a perfect condition. Watch as the specific organ, body system, or part heals. See your whole body becoming pure. Visualize yourself as perfectly healthy.

Cognitive Restructuring To Help You Conceive

Want To Have A Baby Over 40?  No Negative Thoughts!

Wow, that's a mouthful. Cognitive restructuring is basically a fancy and clinical way of saying: "CLEAN UP YOUR THOUGHTS!"
 My site:
Not only do negative thoughts add stress to your life, but they also attract more negativity to your life. None of these things are going to help you have a baby. This article gives some suggestions on how to challenge your negative thoughts. Read more:

From the article:

Cognitive restructuring is a "rethinking" process which comes out of the field of cognitive therapy. I like to describe it as "learning to think about how you think, and learning to reframe negative self-talk." Cognitive therapy is one of the most successful approaches to treating depression. While the early research and work in this field was done by Dr. Aaron Beck, the wider applications have been popularized by Dr. David Burns in his Feeling Good Handbook. The premise is fairly simple: thoughts and attitudes cause your moods - not external events. Therefore, if you change your thoughts, you can change your moods and emotions. Maybe sometimes easier said than done!

See Also:  You Can Get Pregnant Over 40, Naturally Meditation and Visualization (

In the case of infertility patients in particular, negative thoughts such as the ones above contribute to a feeling of depression, sadness, worthlessness and hopelessness. If the cognitive restructuring process can be applied by the patient to that negative, often distorted thinking, the research is very clear - depression decreases, anxiety decreases, self-esteem increases, and stress in general is handled better. The idea is to try to become aware of the negative thoughts, figure out if they are true, challenge them if they are not true, and come up with a thought/statement that is more accurate.

When I read about 59-year-old Linda Smith, of Texas, who gave birth to son Django last week, I assumed this was another medical miracle brought about through the use of IVF, hormone injections, etc.

But I was wrong. Smith conceived completely naturally, although she interpreted the fatigue of early pregnancy as a symptom of menopause.
It's hard not to believe in fate when it comes to the Smiths - Linda and her husband, Steve, lost their 20-year-old son - also named Steve - in a December 2005 motorcycle accident. Although they each have other children from previous marriages, Steve was their only child together.

Natural Pregnancy Over 40

I'm sure you've never heard of "earthing".  Earthing is just what it sounds like...making contact with the earth.  If you are trying to conceive, your body needs to be in balance.  Getting pregnant is a very natural really are one with nature when you conceive a child.  Here is an explanation of how earthing may help your body and how the whole process works.
From the article:
Fertility Necklaces with healing stones and symbols click here
Lightning strikes the earth thousands of times per second, especially around the equator. As a result, the earth’s surface is a plethora of electrons. We know that the human body is full of free radicals. They are enormously abundant in our bodies from the air we breathe, the heavy metals, the mercury, the Trans fats, the insecticides, the pesticides, the radiation, the sugars, and many other things in our environment.

So, the human body is a sea of chemicals and free radicals, and we need electrons to neutralize them. You can take all the good antioxidants in the world, such as CoQ10, zinc, beta carotene, lycopene, or lutein, but that may not be enough. You need more than just antioxidants to combat the effects of all the chemicals and free radicals. If you ground, you’re going to be soaking up these electrons, which will in turn neutralize free radicals.

Experiments have shown that grounding has several effects on the human body. The autonomic motor system calms down. There is a lot of influence on the vagus nerve, so there’s more parasympathetic stimulation. Cortisol dynamics improve. People sleep better. Inflammation improves, as does the thickness of the blood. Heart rate variability, which means irregular heartbeats, also improve. For the cardiovascular system, grounding is like a panacea. It does everything right.

Think about people who take a vacation at the beach. They lie in the sun and walk on the beach, getting direct contact with the sand and the water. When they get home, they feel refreshed, alive, and calm. They also say that they slept better while they were away. This isn't actually due to the time away or the lack of stress; it's because of the grounding. Grounding (aka Earthing) really does make you feel better. You can sleep grounded. You can walk grounded. It’s absolutely free, and it makes a huge difference.

Male Fertility and Sperm Helped With Algae

I have frequently heard about how healthy algae can be.
See for my entire series on foods to enhance fertility and how wheatgrass may help fertility
This article talks about how bioalgae concentrates (BAC) can help fertility and sperm in men:

BAC, People and Fertility

When consuming BAC, most people report a sense of increased energy and strength. There have been many cases of fertility or other benefits reported anecdotally by people using BAC:

Couples having difficulty getting pregnant, reported successful pregnancy and resulting birth
Women that had entered menopause, reported returning menstruations

Women and men report increased libido
Men report increased erectile function
Normalization of the level of testosterones and other hormones

BAC, Energy and Spermatozoid motility

Rather than detailing the physiological mechanism of fertilely, fecundity and vitality all of which can be found in many books; or demonstrating the specific mechanism of each result or benefit, I will describe only one physiological example and hope that you can make the link between, or understand the relationship of nutrition (and BAC) and fecundity.

See also: Wheatgrass For Fertility (
Greens for fertility (

As seen, often in the research with BAC, spermatozoid count and its motility became more elevated in most species tested.

Spermatozoid count is a function of testosterone, cell splitting and other energy and metabolic factors.

Motility is a biological term which refers to the ability to move spontaneously and independently. In terms of fecundity it describes the capacity of the sperm to reach the egg.

One partial explanation of these results is associated with increased ATP energy resulting from a better mitochondria Krebs cycle metabolism. When you take a look at the spermatozoid you can understand the importance of energy required for its flagellum to propel it towards the egg. The key to the spermatozoid motility is in its middle section (see diagram). This middle part, immediately behind the head, contains numerous mitochondria. This section respire sugars in the semen to generate within each mitochondria the strong energy required for movement (motility) of the tail.

Woman Conceives Naturally and Has Baby at 50

Getting Pregnant Over 40 Is Not So Rare! Now Maybe 50 Too!

I have done a number of blog postings about women who had babies and conceived naturally in their 50's.

My site:'s another one. The article below of course has to quote the "obligatory dismal statistics" about having a baby at this age, but the bottom line is that this 50 year old woman had a healthy baby! It's happened before and it will happen again. Read more:

WHEN a 50-year-old woman on the Gold Coast gave birth recently to a healthy baby boy it hardly created national headlines.

That’s because, thanks to IVF, more than 530 Australian women over the age of 45 now give birth each year, and at least 30 women aged 50 or more. Earlier this year, a 61-year-old retiree in Chicago was reported to be carrying her own grandson as a surrogate for her daughter, who had been trying for years to have a baby.

Read About My Pregnancy At 49 (
What’s different about our Gold Coast woman, Anthea Nicholas, is that the semi-retired real estate agent fell pregnant naturally.

...birth registers tell us that women aged 50 and over have been having babies since medieval times...

...But those who oppose motherhood over 50 appear to harbour misgivings other than medical ones: the sheer stress of being a mother at this age, the child’s welfare in the years ahead. Oddly enough, the same negativity isn’t levelled at older fathers.

TTC? Soda May Damage Your DNA

Pregnancy Over 40, Protect You DNA

I've written before about the dangers of artificial sweeteners found in sodas and other products. Here is another reason you may want to think about cutting soda out of your diet. Sodium benzoate is a common ingredient in soft drinks and it may actually harm your DNA.
My site:

Since I enjoy carbonated beverages, I started making my own carbonated tea. I brew the tea of my choice, add flavored seltzer (I like "Blue Sky" lemon flavor)add a squirt of lemon juice, and sweeten with "stevia" which is thought to be safer than other artificial sweeteners. So far it's quenched my desire for carbonated beverages and it doesn't have any calories. Give it a try!

Read more about soda your DNA:

Sodium benzoate has already been the subject of concern about cancer because when mixed with the additive vitamin C in soft drinks, it causes benzene, a carcinogenic substance. The UK's Food Standards Agency survey of benzene in drinks last year found high levels in four brands which were removed from sale.

Now, an expert in ageing at Sheffield University, who has been working on sodium benzoate since publishing a research paper in 1999, has decided to speak out about another danger. Professor Peter Piper, a professor of molecular biology and biotechnology, tested the impact of sodium benzoate on living yeast cells in his laboratory. What he found alarmed him: the benzoate was damaging an important area of DNA in the "power station" of cells known as the mitochondria.

He said: "These chemicals have the ability to cause severe damage to DNA in the mitochondria to the point that they totally inactivate it: they knock it out altogether.

"The mitochondria consumes the oxygen to give you energy and if you damage it - as happens in a number if diseased states - then the cell starts to malfunction very seriously. And there is a whole array of diseases that are now being tied to damage to this DNA - Parkinson's and quite a lot of neuro-degenerative diseases, but above all the whole process of ageing."

The UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA) backs the use of sodium benzoate in Britain and it has been approved by the European Union but last night British MPs called for it to investigate urgently.

Norman Baker, the Liberal Democrat chair of British Parliament's all-party environment group said: "Many additives are relatively new and their long-term impact cannot be certain. This preservative clearly needs to be investigated further by the FSA."

A review of sodium benzoate by the World Health Organisation in 2000 concluded that it was safe, but it noted that the available science supporting its safety was "limited". .

Fertility and Obesity: Your Eggs Are Obese Too

Obesity and Fertility

It seems I'm continually hearing about how being overweight or obese can be an underlying cause of many disorders, diseases and complications including infertility.
My site:
Here is an article that discusses how eggs can actually be obese too. Read more:

While obesity has long been thought to be a major factor in couples' inability to conceive, this is the first time the effects of obesity on the egg have been discovered.

The research findings using female mice have been made by PhD student Cadence Minge in the University of Adelaide's Research Centre for Reproductive Health.

Importantly, her research has also discovered a way to completely reverse the effects of obesity on mouse eggs, enabling afflicted eggs to develop into healthy embryos.

"Consuming a diet high in fat causes damage to eggs stored in female ovaries. As a result, when fertilised these eggs are not able to undergo normal, healthy development into embryos," Ms Minge says.

Ms Minge has discovered that a protein in the cells surrounding, supporting and nourishing the egg called Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor gamma (PPARĪ³) is the main reason behind diet-induced infertility.

"The behaviour of this protein helps to determine the way in which the ovaries sense and respond to fats," Ms Minge says

Calcium: Fertility Link

Pregnancy Over 40, The Calcium Connection

Ive been taking calcium supplements for many years and I took them while I was trying to conceive.
My site:
Here is an article that talks about how there may be an actual link between calcium levels and fertility. Read more:

Calcium appears to play a role in fertility (and cancer).

Gordon Woods (University of Idaho, USA) said he found this after carrying out studies on cloned mules.

Was told the conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

According to Wood, the vital ingredient in the process of triggering growth in the embryos could have been extra calcium in the surrounding fluid.

Pregnancy Over 40, Triggering Ovulation

Let's face it, getting pregnant starts with having a strong menstrual cycle.
My site:
A strong predictable menstrual cycle means that ovulation is occurring and hormones are where they should be (please note, "strong" doesn't necessarily mean "heavy" bleeding --- scanty bleeding could also signify a problem).
Here is an excerpt from an article which talks about regulating your menstrual cycle with light and dark (although I did not try this when I was trying to conceive, I've read about this from numerous sources):

John Rock (the Ob/Gyn whose experiments with giving infertile women synthesized progesterone led to the creation of the Pill) and physicist E.M. Dewan found that women's menstrual cycles became regular by sleeping in complete darkness Days 1-13, sleeping with a 100-watt bulb burning all night (under a lampshade in their bedroom) Days 14-17, and then returning to sleeping in complete darkness until the new period began (4).

See also:  Short Menstrual Cycles and Fertility (
and           Natural Ways To Increase Progesterone

Thrilled by the possibility that she could return to healthy cycles, Lacey tried variations on the above experiment, beginning in 1971. She also began to chart her temperature. She found that sleeping in complete darkness except for three nights each cycle (when she slept with a 40-watt bulb under a lampshade or with a 75-watt bulb beaming a shaft of light from a nearby bathroom (essentially mimicking full-moon light) triggered ovulation. She called the technique Lunaception, and found that it could be used to direct her fertility--and that of her women friends. By avoiding intercourse on the days they slept with light, Louise Lacey and 27 of her friends developed regular, healthy menstrual cycles, and used Lunaception to avoid pregnancy effectively until menopause (5).

Other clinical researchers have also found that sleeping in the absence of light (introducing it for a few days each cycle, or sleeping only in the absence of light) can help women in a variety of situations to strengthen their cycles (6)(7).

Women with anovulatory cycles have become ovulatory.
Women with unclear mucus readings develop discernible, healthy mucus build-up.
Cycles that had been very short (26 days or less) or very long (35 days or more) become 27-31 days long.
FSH levels become healthy.
Spotting at various times during the cycle is significantly reduced.
Progesterone levels are strengthened.
Women with a history of miscarriage(s) are able to sustain pregnancy.
Premenopausal women develop a more discernible mucus pattern; and the intensity of their premenopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, sleeplessness, and mood changes are reduced.
So what does sleeping in total darkness mean? Fifteen minutes after turning out the lights, you can't see objects in the room, including your own hands. Bedroom windows are covered with room-darkening blinds or curtains backed by light-blocking fabric. Cracks of light from under doors can be covered with a towel. Cracks around the edges of windows can be covered with aluminum foil."
