The Risk Of Using Donor Eggs

Donor Eggs And Miscarriage Risk

Depending on your age, you may be encouraged by reproductive endocrinologists to consider using donor eggs.
http://www.getpregnantover40.com
Some doctors won't even consider doing IVF without donor eggs over the age of 43. But IVF cycles using donor eggs may have their own set of risks. Here is an article that tells more:

Donated eggs may increase miscarriage risk Recipients also face higher blood pressure, study finds

This excerpt from the article explains why donor cycles may have these complications:

"Experts believe the greater risks are due to the fact that donated eggs, like transplanted organs or tissue, are not genetically identical to the recipient and probably awaken the immune system.

The placenta formed after egg donation may have more foreign elements and trigger abnormal responses from the mother, which could results in complications, such as miscarriages or high blood pressure"

Great Holistic Resource For Infertility

Holistic Methods To Help With Pregnancy Over 40

I found a very comprehensive resource for some holistic remedies for infertility from "www.holistic-online.com".
 My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
There are many things on this site that I had never come across before so obviously I haven't tried all of their remedies. The nice thing about this site is that it has a section for women and men:

Infertility Infocenter in Holisticonline.com

This site is very well rounded since it discusses traditional diagnosis and treatment of infertility as well as alternative treatments for women and men.

IVF May Lead To Higher Stillborn Risk

Stillborn Risk With IVF Four Times Higher

I have had numerous posts about some of the risks associated with IVF, everything from a higher rate of ectopic pregnancies to fetal abnormalities, multiple births and the list goes on.
My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
This article talks about a study which has identified an increased risk of stillbirths in IVF patients. Read more:

telegraph.co.uk

From the article:

A study has suggested that the technique may be to blame for the increased risk rather than the couple's underlying fertility problems.

Almost 50,000 cycles of IVF are carried out each year in Britain, treating around 37,000 women.

Research carried out in Denmark found that women who conceived using in vitro fertilisation (IVF) where the eggs and sperm are mixed together in a dish, or the more advanced intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) where a single sperm is injected directly into the egg, were four times more likely to have a stillborn child than those who conceived naturally.

Fertile women who conceived naturally, those who had suffered problems but did not require treatment and those who had other, non-IVF treatments had a lower risk of stillbirth.

This shows that the IVF technique or something about the couples who have IVF is responsible for the increased risk of stillbirth, the researchers said.

Feng Shui For Fertility?

Pregnancy Over 40, Help Your Fertility With Feng shui

I know absolutely nothing about feng shui, however I've know a number of people who have designed and furnished their homes and offices using the principles of feng shui.
My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
I came across this article about how feng shui can promote fertility. It may be worth a try!

Learn how feng shui can help you with fertility problems
By Jakob Jelling
FengShuiCrazy.com

From the article:

According to feng shui, one first factor which might be having an important amount of incidence on a couple which has fertility problems are poison arrows. Poison arrows can appear at any part of the house as well as they can be in the exterior and pointing towards it. Examples of poison arrows are corners which make sharp angles and trees or similar structures pointing towards the house. These elements should be eliminated or covered with plants if eliminating them is not possible.

The most problematic and destructive poison arrows are those which are in the exterior of your house but near it and pointing right towards your main door. The angle of a building, a pillar or a tree pointing this way might be a very negative influence for the lives of those who inhabit the house. These poison arrows cut the energy brought by good chi and bring obstacles and trouble to the space towards which they point.

Another feng shui tip for overcoming fertility problems recommends having a fruit tree. The fruits of this tree which you would have in your garden would symbolize fertility and children, and the more fructiferous it is the better chances the couple will have of conceiving a child so you should take good care of it in order for it to be healthy and give as many fruits as possible.

A very important guideline to follow regarding fertility is one based on the personal kua numbers of the couple members. According to the personal kua number, there is a specific nien yen or fertility direction which has a direct impact on the fertility of the couple. Therefore, once you have found your personal kua number you can enhance your fertility direction and this way improve your chances of conceiving.

Another Over 40 Celebrity Has Baby Naturally After Failed IVF's

Pregnancy Over 40 Naturally:  Emily Procter

The beautiful actress, Emily Procter from CSI Miami was recently featured in parade magazine with her new baby.
My site: www.getpregnantover40.com
She tells of her struggle to get pregnant and her failed IUI's and IVF's. Wouldn't you know it, when she finally gave up, she got pregnant naturally. The examples of women over 40 conceiving naturally (even after failed fertility treatments) keep coming. It makes you wonder if they would have gotten pregnant sooner had they not been going through the rigors of fertility treatments. Read more:

parade.com

From the site:

CSI: Miami star Emily Procter talks about growing up adopted, her hard-won pregnancy and how both have shaped her love of family. She also admits that, while “I love my job...work had somehow gotten in the way of having children.” Procter, 42, tells PARADE, “I really beat myself up for waiting so long when I’d always wanted children and family had been the basis of happiness my whole life. We (she and music producer partner Paul Bryan) did IUI (intrauterine insemination) and two rounds of IVF (in vitro fertilization), and nothing worked. We considered adoption, but the process takes so long. In the end, we gave up on the treatments, and the very next month, I got pregnant naturally.” Procter gave birth to daughter Pippa on December 8.

TWINS OVER 50, JOAN LUNDEN AND OLDER PREGNANCY

Update (June 2014):
My thoughts go out to Joan Lunden and her family. Please join me in saying a prayer and sending positive thoughts after her announcement that she is battling breast cancer.

Pregnancy Over 50, Joan Lunden

I was always a big fan of Joan Lunden when she was on morning television.
See also:  www.getpregnantover40.com for more articles on pregnancy over 40 and 50
Little did I know she would later become a hero and advocate for older mothers.  I remember hearing all the headlines about Joan Lunden and how she had twins by surrogate not once but twice (and, by the way, her surrogate was 44!).  Since I had my daughter naturally at the age of 44 (with only one fallopian tube), and I've written so many article about women who conceive naturally well into their 40's, I know that older mothers are in good company.
PICTURE: Annie Watson

We frequently talk about being a mother over 40, over 50, but how about over 60? Even though she was in her 50's when her twins were born, she'll spend her 60's raising them! It doesn't seem to phase her a bit.

PREGNANCY AT 45: IMAN THE MODEL GETS PREGNANT

Pregnancy Over 40, Iman Had Natural Conception

I'm surprised I hadn't run across this story yet. The beautiful model "Iman" had a baby (and conceived naturally) at the age of 45 after a couple of failed IVF's.

Her story sounds very similar to mine. I think women over 40 automatically turn to fertility treatments (or are pushed into them), when they may be perfectly capable of conceiving on their own. Yes, it does take longer when you get older, but it's not impossible. In this article, she talks about the rewards of being an older mother.

The age difference between her two daughters — 30-year-old Zulekha and 8-year-old Alexandria ‘Lexi’ Zahra Jones — is stark, and former supermodel Iman, 53, doesn’t like reporters to do the math! “God, you’re making me sound even older than I am,” she tells PARADE. “People talk about the miracle of birth. No. There’s the miracle of conception.” She elaborates,

“I did IVF, but nothing happened. So I began to think of adoption and then I got pregnant. It was definitely a miracle.”

Motherhood the second time around has been a different experience entirely, and Iman says that she’s far more patient as a result. “I was at the height of my career when I had my first child, and I took her with me around the world,” she notes. “Then I had to root her in school; It was difficult to leave her behind.”
